Epilogue
.:Malia:.
"Momma," my 10 year old son comes up to me, hugging my stomach. I had a small bump on my stomach.
"Hi, baby," I smiled kindly, patting his head. "How was your day with your dad and Anita?"
"It was great! We went to get ice cream," Aiden chirped and I chuckled.
"Yum," I said. "Go wash up, now. Dimitri is making dinner," my son nods and stops first, rubbing my belly.
"Is this my new sister?" Aiden asked, his eyes shining and I smile brightly.
"It is," I said. "Do you know her name?"
"No," Aiden said. "You picked out a name already?"
I sit up and Aiden sits next to me. "I was actually hoping you'd pick out a name, Honey." Aiden's eyes shined, a child like smile forming on his lips.
"Let's name her... Callie!"
Callie. What a wonderful name. "Callie it is, then." I kiss the top of his head and he nods, running out of the room to go wash up. I sigh, getting off the couch and walking towards the kitchen, where my lovely Dimitri was cooking.
Five years ago, we were in a ritual to weave our severed connection back together. Amazingly, it worked. Every time I get close to him, I feel tingles down my body, I feel happy and giddy. When I touch him, that spark is there and stronger than ever. I was knocked out cold for a couple of days, but when I had woken up, Dimitri was right by my side and told me that it had worked.
"I know, because once you fell into a coma, I could feel you slowly slipping in and out. I couldn't bear the thought of losing you right when I just got you back, babygirl. I'm never leaving you again."
We completed the mating ritual that night and now, our connection is stronger. 8 months ago, I was surprised with a pregnancy. We were thrilled beyond relief. A beautiful baby girl.
When I entered the kitchen I walked behind Dimitri, wrapping my arms around his waist and hugging him from behind. Dimitri stops what he's doing for a moment to put his hands over mine and look over at me. He gives me the smile that never ceased to amaze and baffle me, that heart stopping smile that could leave me breathless. "How's my Babygirl doing?" he mutters, turning slightly to kiss my forehead and going back to preparing the food. It was almost done, so he turned off the stove and let it finish as the stove eye started dying down. He turns around and embraces me.
"Tired," I say, with a dumb smile and droopy eyes. Dimitri smiled and kissed my nose, then puts his hands around my belly.
"And how's my baby girl doing?"
I chuckle. "Giving mama a backache," I say.
"Mmm, can't have that, can we? I'll massage you after dinner."
"That would be lovely," I say, before calling Aiden down for dinner.
He comes down quietly and we eat around the table, asking Aiden how his day was, talking about preparations for Callie's arrival, which will be in two weeks or less. It was a nice dinner and by the end of the night, we put Aiden to bed and Dimitri and I sat on the couch for a while, watching TV.
Before we went to bed that night, Mason and Kaiden came around and chit chatted with us for a while. Mason had gotten better and his brain was working properly.
I had my best friend back, Kaiden had his mate and Aiden now knows his uncle. After I woke up from the coma, Dimitri and Mason buried the hatchet in front of me, discussing never to let anything get in between them and things ending that badly again, and if ever, not enough to kill the other. I don't care how much I love them, I'd do what I did again in a heartbeat.
Mason is my beta again. The connection between us is back and Ryder and Anita are just another member of the pack. They now have a baby boy.
Dimitri and I went to sleep peacefully that night.
--
I woke up in the middle of the night, with a woozy feeling in my gut. Thankfully, it wasn't morning sickness, but I knew something was up. I looked over to Dimitri, who was sleeping soundlessly, his arm wrapped around my waist. Carefully and quietly, I moved out from under his arm and got out of bed.
I walked out of the room, yawning as I turned towards the hall that led to Aiden's room. When I got there, I opened the door and saw Aiden in his bed, sleeping. I smiled slightly, and went towards his bed, sitting down on the edge. I could hear him whimpering, as well as hearing his teeth clattering together, as if he was cold.
I frowned slightly, putting my hands on his cheeks-he was burning up. I proceeded to put a hand on his forehead and felt that he was burning everywhere on his face and he wouldn't stop shivering. He was sick. My eyes darken as I recall the distressing news Evangeline told me.
He wouldn't live to see his 21st birthday...
I gulped, tears springing to my eyes. Before I could get up and walk back to my room, I hear Aiden shift in his bed. I look back and I see his eyes are slightly opened, looking at me in confusion.
"Momma, are you okay?" He asks, sitting up.
I smile sadly and ruffled his hair. "I'm good baby. I just came to check on you. Are you feeling okay?"
Aiden frowns. "I feel sick."
I nod and say, "rest, Aiden. Go back to sleep."
"Okay," Aiden muttered. Before he laid back down he looked at me "I wanna say something first," he says and he looks at my tummy and put his tiny hands over it, bringing his face close to my stomach. "Listen here, Callie, I'm your big brother. And I'm gonna protect you no matter what!"
I chuckle and my heart skips and soars when I hear my baby boy say this to his unborn sister. He lays back down and I kiss his head. "Goodnight, Aiden."
"Goodnight, momma."
I stand back up and walk out of his room, closing the door behind me.
When I get back to my room, I make a promise to myself.
I am not letting Aiden die before me.
