Chapter 8: Kaiden

When Ryder's hands covered my eyes, my first thought was "what's so secretive about this present?" When I heard the crowd gasp, I knew it was something shocking, possibly unbelievable.

Then, I felt it. That tingling sensation. The one that tells me my mate is near. The wolf inside me was happy and I was getting anxious. But, he's dead... This can't be.

Ryder took his hands off of my eyes, revealing the man that I have been missing since the day he died. The man who I love more than anyone. The man that I couldn't get out of my dreams for so long, he was right in front of me.

"M-Mason...?"

He smiled at me. That smile made me lose it. I missed him, I missed him so fucking much. I wanted to cry, I wanted to scream, I wanted to jump for joy. I wanted to laugh! My first instinct though?

Kiss the fuck out of him.

"Happy birthday, Kai--"

So that's what I did. I pulled him towards me, smashed my lips onto his and wrapped my arms around him. He did the same, placing his hands in my back pockets. I didn't wanna let go. I feared if I did, this would just be a creud dream. He pulled away, resting his forehead on mine, shutting his eyes. I did the same, savoring his closeness.

Then, Mason was ripped away from me by the rest of the pack, hounding him with questions. I wanted to ask them too. Like how was he alive? I turned to look at Malia, but she was pulled to the side by Ryder. I felt a tug at my shirt and saw Aiden. His big brown eyes looked at me, curiously. "Uncle Kaiden, who was that?" he asked. I smiled, picking him up in my arms, and resting him on my side.

"That, my nephew, is your mother's brother, my mate- Your Uncle Mason," I said, a small laugh escaping my lips. Aiden looked at him thoughtfully, cocking his head.

"But mommy told me her brother was dead," he said. Pain still struck me, even if he was alive. "That can't be Uncle Mason, Uncle Kaiden."

I smiled slightly at him. "I understand you very well, Aiden. But he's real, and alive. So why don't we introduce you to your uncle?" Aiden nodded, still looking confused. I know the kid's worries. I'm worried too.

I pushed passed the pack, walking up to Mason. He was talking to a few members, before he laid his eyes on me and Aiden. I smiled kindly at him and he lit up, smiling back. I walked toward him, and opened my mouth to speak. "So," I said, as Malia came into view and so did Ryder. "This is Malia's son. Your nephew, Aiden." Mason looked at Aiden, a weird look in his eye, that I couldn't quite make out. He smiled at the kid.

"Hey, buddy. I'm Uncle Mason," he said with a smile. Aiden just stared at him, not bothering to speak. Mason frowned, looking to me, then at Malia and Ryder. "Does he speak much?" he asks.

Malia smiles. "Oh yeah, he's definitely a talker. He's just probably surprised and shy."

"You're not Uncle Mason," Aiden says suddenly and Mason snaps his head toward him.

"What do you mean? Yes I am." Aiden shakes his head no.

"Uncle Mason is at his spot on the hill. You're not Uncle Mason."

The room went silent as Aiden said this. The air was tense, as Mason pursed his lips. "Well, I decided to visit, Aiden."

Aiden squinted at Mason, frowning. He looked so confused. "Okay..." I smiled slightly at Aiden, before putting him down, letting him run off. I look at Mason, taking him in. He looks the same as he did so many years ago.

Most of all, he looks sexy as fuck. I can't get over him being here. Which brings me to...

"How are you here right now? How are you alive?" I asked, breathless. I take his head into my hands, cupping his face as we bring our foreheads together.

"I don't know, but apparently it has something to do with..." He trailed off into a whisper, and I frowned.

"With who?" I ask.

Mason's eyes shift towards the ground, as he mumbles incoherently. I suddenly get frustrated. "Mason, just tell me who."

"Dimitri," he said lowly and I stiffen. Dimitri? As in, Malia's mate who killed Mason, Dimitri?

"How? Why? When? What the hell?" I'm freaking out, as I look toward Malia, who looks to be in a deep, serious conversation with Ryder. I walk through the sea of people again, to get to them. Once I reached Malia, I put a hand on her shoulder, spinning her around. She looked me in the eyes, her eyes widening slightly.

"Kaiden, what--"

"When were you going to tell me Dimitri had something to do with Mason coming back to life?"

Malia's eyes softened, but she looked troubled. "Because I don't know if that's true or not..." she said, Ryder coming closer to her side.

"We're going to look more into the witch, Paola. If it says anything about dealing with Dimitri at all, we'll notify you." I nodded, feeling someone tugging at my hand. I turn to see him again, Mason, and my heart quickens.

He gives me a sort of seductive look, as he tugs on my hand again. "I think it's time I give you a present now..." I gulp slightly, while thinking, oh sweet mama, we're completing the mate ritual tonight.

Malia pushes my back, making me bump into Mason and I turn to give her a glare. She smirks at me, giving me a nod that said "go on." Mason laughs beside me, before dragging me towards the entrance of the building. But before we could get to the door, it opens up wide, and loudly making the pack silence.

Eyes widen, gasps are given and whispers fill the room.

He has some nerve coming here.

Oh my god, he's back.

What's Malia going to do?

What's Ryder going to do?

How is he not dead yet?

When did he come back?

Why is he here?

Sparkling blue eyes meet mine for a moment, before looking around the room. His cocky grin is unmistakeable as his jet black hair falls into his eyes, he pushes it back. He shoves his hands into his pockets, and leans against the doorway. All in all, he still looks like the same motherfucker that I would very much like to kill right now. But it isn't my call. I look over to Malia, as did everyone else in the room, it seemed. Her eyes are widened, her jaw slack, as it's agape.

She slowly walks up to him, not daring to leave his gaze.

He smirked at her, but I could see the light in his eyes as he looked at her. "Dearest Malia... It's been too long," his sultry voice filled the room. He even sounded the same.

"Dimitri..." She breathed out, gulping for a moment. He opened his arms.

"Don't I get a hug?" he asked, innocently.

Malia shakes her head and he frowns slightly. "No, you're getting so much more than that." His frown immediately changes to a lustful look.

"And what's that?" He asks, his voice hoarse.

Suddenly, Malia's fist connected with Dimitri's jaw.
