Prologue
.:Malia:.
"Mommy!" Aiden ran towards me, giggling like a mad man. I smiled brightly at my 5 year old, as he clung onto my leg. "Daddy is coming to eat me!" he yelled and I smirked.
"Oh?" I mused. "Well, not to fear, Sweetie. Mommy will save you from the big bad wolf." Aiden beemed up at me and he shrunk back behind me when his father started running towards us, with a wolfy grin.
"Come on little man, you can't hide behind women forever!" he chuckled, looking me dead in the eye and my heart skipped a beat.
I gave him an innocent smile. "I'd rather protect my baby boy from the dangers of the world," I said.
Ryder snorted. "How can you protect him, Darling... When you can't even protect yourself?" right when he said that, he grabbed hold of my waist, making me squeal. He made a loud growling sound as he placed many open mouthed kisses on my cheek, which made Aiden think he was eating me.
"No, daddy, don't eat mommy!" he shrieked, running in the middle of us and punched Ryder on the leg multiple times. I giggled, as Ryder stopped and looked at our son.
"But, how can I get to my son if mommy is in the way?" he asked.
"Take me instead!" Aiden said, with a pout. My eyes shined with adoration. I could tell, my son would be very protecting of his family when he was older. That made me so proud.
"Malia," I turned my head to see Kaiden walking towards me with a smile.
"Hey, Kaiden!" I said, cheerfully. I hugged him and he hugged back, before pulling away. "How are you doing?"
"Great," he smiles, but as always it looks so broken. It broke my heart. "This came for you," he said, holding up an envelope. I nodded, taking it from his hands.
"Thanks," I said.
"No problem."
"Uncle Kaiden!" Aiden jumped towards us and Kaiden picked Aiden up in his arms.
"Hey, Squirt!" he chuckled.
"Play with me, Uncle Kaiden!" he says, with a bright smile.
Kaiden smiled and put him down, before patting him on the head. "Maybe later, Aiden. Uncle Kaiden has to do some things."
Aiden pouts. "Okay..."
"Hey," Kaiden pokes him on the forehead. "When I'm done, I'll come find you, alright?" Aiden brightens up and runs off, to god knows where. Kaiden chuckles and looks at me. "I'll see you around."
I nodded, as Ryder puts his arm around my waist. I look up at him and smile, lovingly. He smiles back at me, with the same amount of emotion and we walked back around the pack territory.
I looked around the territory, small flashbacks coming to mind, as they have done for the past 7 years. Ever since... I found out he killed my own brother, everywhere I look, I see his face. It annoyed the hell out of me.
I stopped with the search party a year before Aiden was born, thinking it was no use anymore, that he had fled the state, hopefully the country. I decided not to let my life be consumed by thoughts of killing my mate, but to live my life, build a family with Ryder and get my pack to be the strongest of all the packs in the area. Nothing else has made me more happy, than to focus on the things worth caring about.
My best friend, Scar, was still with Jarrod, thankfully and they were expecting a baby girl soon. I was happy for them. My mother and father, both had fled the state, after I took over the pack. It saddened me that they had to go, but they had trusted me with the pack-- I would not fail them. Of course, they write every so often and they also call to check in, which I'm happy about. I didn't know what I would do without hearing from them at least every few days.
