- so ik the description of Ember isn't scientifically possible at this point in time, so *Miranda voice* back off haters *

Troye and I were making pancakes and relaxing. It was a gloomy Saturday morning, thunder and lightning (BUY THUNDER AND LIGHTNING BY RICKY DILLON ON ITUNES) were constantly sounding outside outside our humble abode. Ember was sitting on the floor, in front of the big window in our living room. She had her legs crossed, and her back was straight.

Ember is 14 years old, and very smart, always proving people wrong. She learned quickly as a child, much quicker than her classmates. With my brown hair and my green eyes, and Troye's lips and sharp jawline, she is very pretty. Ember is a natural-born leader, and has very strong morals. She's our only child, and was the kindest one we've ever met.

"Ember?" I call softly to her. Her hand tenses, so I knew she had heard me. "Want some pancakes?"

"Yeah, sure. Do you have chocolate?" She asks, and I smile, glad to know that she's in a good mood.

"Yup. Do you want to join us?" Troye answers for me. "I don't have to go to the studio today."

Ember stands up and heads our way. Her hair is down, covering more than half of her back. She has on her softball sweatshirt, and pajama bottoms that are at least two inches thick. Even at 8 am on a Saturday, with no makeup on, she was stunning. If only she could see it herself, the way people are in awe when she walks by, the way people always call her pretty. The leadership in her has taught her to not accept compliments, and turn them back to the person giving them. Ember doesn't know she does it, and that makes it even harder for her.

"Hey dad?" She asks, looking over to Troye.

Troye is dad,  and I am daddy. No matter what age she is, we know that she will always call us these, and not by our actual names.

"Yes Ember?" He says, and hands both her and me a plate of pancakes before grabbing one for himself.

"Thank you, so much. For everything you have done for me recently." Ember starts to cut her pancakes, not looking up.

Troye and I meet eyes, and both smile at each other. "No, thank you. I understand, what it feels like to go through something like this. So does Connor."

I nod as he mentions me. "Ember, I am so thankful to have you in my life. In our lives. To be completely honest, even if you don't believe it, I couldn't have asked for a better person to be my child."

"Someone who was less problematic." She retorts, rolling her eyes.

"No, seriously. If I had a child who didn't have problems, or what you define as problems, I would be worried. Yes, not everyone goes through these things. And there's still a lot of people who don't make it to the end."

She finally looks up, and I can see pure understanding in her eyes.

Troye has been silent, sitting next to me, looking like he was deep in thought. His eyes were blank and his leg was bouncing up and down against mine. He suddenly jerks his head up, and seems as if he found the answer he was looking for.

"I have an idea."

"I could tell." Ember and I say in unison, making both of us laugh. Troye just sticks his tongue out, making us laugh even harder.

"And what is this idea of yours, may I ask?" I say, still trying to hold in laughter.

"Yes you may. And my idea has something to do with videos, and—"

"Dad, we aren't going to play Mario Kart again so you can lose and argue that you won."

"Shhhh." He teases, waving his hand dismissively in Ember's direction. "I wasn't done. Who wants a movie marathon, with ice cream and blankets?"

"I know I do." I chuckle, and Ember just nods in response. "What movie are you thinking of?"

"I'm pretty sure Ember knows what movie she wants to watch." He says, winking in her direction for no reason except to make her laugh. It worked, and she almost doubles over in laughter.

I just watch them, shaking my head. "Idiots."

We finish breakfast, and I clear the table to start the dishes. Troye grabs a couple blankets and sets them on the couch, while Ember puts the movie in. She had decided on the four Police Academy movies, and I was proud that I had raised her well. Troye would rather watch a documentary, but he's ok with her choice, mostly because Ember and I love them. After I'm done with the dishes, I grab the ice cream from the fridge and fill up three bowls.

I make my way to where Troye and Ember are already sitting on the couch, and hand them each a bowl and a spoon. I sit to the left of Troye, while Ember sits on the other side of the couch, already wrapped up in a thick blanket.

"I love you, Con da Bon." Troye whispers as the movie starts.

I snuggle up to him, spread some ice cream on my lips, and kiss his cheek. Ember watched as I did it, giggling as Troye complained, saying "eww" and dramatically wiping off his cheek.

"Love you too, Troye boy." I tease, and jump up to close the white curtains, even though little light was coming through. When I sat back down, Troye pulled me onto his lap, and wrapped his arms around my waist. He buried his head into my back, but I moved to wear he was forced to rest his chin on my shoulder.

"Watch." I whisper, pointing to the movie that's playing in front of us. He starts to complain, but I grab his hands, silencing him.

At the end of all four movies, after a small pillow fight between the second and third one, Ember was dead asleep, snuggled up in the crook of Troye's arm. Troye was leaning on my side, his back facing me, and his head resting on my chest. He, too, was fast asleep.

I just sat there, letting the credits roll, marveling at my small, but amazing, family.

"How lucky can I be?" I ask out loud to myself, before falling asleep with Troye and Ember, with a smile on my face.
