Grace opened the library door quietly. She stood there for a moment watching Lockwood draw something. She could see the crumbled pieces of paper on the floor around his chair. She smiled walking over to him.
"Oh is the meeting over?" Lockwood mocked. He didn't lift his head from his book. He just sat back farther keeping her from seeing it.
"I don't know, I kind of walked out," Grace laughed setting her tea on the side table as she tucked her legs under her.
"Oh, how did my tenants take that?" He muttered glancing over his book for a moment. Grace tilted her head.
"What are you drawing?" She asked smirking a little.
"I'm actually writing your eviction notices," He smirked. Grace looked at the scattered mess he made of discarded paper.
"I see," She leaned forward grabbing one of his rejected pieces. "So I guess I don't get to stay." She sighed as she unfolded the paper. It was a rough sketch of a face. Grace would tell he was trying to make it softer features, but the base was sharp and more masculine.
"Nope." He added.
"If you'd show me. I could help you draw whoever this is?" She said turning the paper around to show him. He looked over his book at the floor.
"Have I ever told you how much I despise drawing," He muttered looking down at his failed attempts. Grace smiled.
"Let me see," She gestured for the book. Lockwood pulled it back to his chest. Grace sighed dropping her hand. "I can at least help you with features." Lockwood held eye contact with her as he leaned forward.
"Fine," He handed her the book moving to the edge of his seat. Grace saw the horrid drawing and bit her lip to keep herself from laughing. "Don't laugh," Lockwood smiled. Grace opened her mouth to speak but almost laughed again. She dropped her head into the book. "Grace," Lockwood warned. She laughed lifting her head up from the book.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." She smiled taking the pencil from his hand. She turned the page. "This was your best one yet." She chewed the inside of her lip. "Okay, who are we trying to draw here?" She flipped back to the other page. Lockwood stared at her, debating whether he wanted to embarrass himself today.
"I can do it by myself," He insisted reaching for the book again, but Grace held it away.
"Woah, woah, woah," She smiled, "I'm here to help you and if I walked away now it would be a disgrace to everything I've been teaching you," Lockwood smirked leaning back in his chair. He rubbed his forehead slightly resting his head on his hand. Grace leaned forward handing him the book back.
"You don't have to tell me, but at least let me help you with the facial structure," She insisted. She leaned closer to Lockwood their knees touching as she explained the difference between the softer feminine features and the harsh masculine ones.
