Mia’s POV
“When I find you, you’re going to regret running away from me. Coward. And now you’re pushing that boy away too. COWARD. Running away from your problems… it’s all you do.” I screamed as my dad’s hands closed around my throat.
“Shhh… Shh it’s OK it was just a nightmare that’s all.” I opened my eyes, blinking to clear the darkness. It was hot, the only light escaping the moon and shining through the window of the hotel room. I was snuggled against Zayn as he murmured comforting words towards me. The thick blankets thrown over us were making it nearly impossible to breathe. I kicked them to the floor, sitting up and looking into the boy’s eyes next to me.
“Zayn… I need to see Liam. I need to prove that I’m not a coward because my dad’s words were true… I am a coward. I am running away. It’s just…” Zayn’s finger pressed down gently on my lips, quieting my words. “You’re not a coward Mia.” There was a hint of something in his eye… jealousy? No.. it couldn’t be. “You can’t talk to him right now; it’s three in the morning.” I sighed before nodding and lying back down next to Zayn.
“Thank you… for being here. For sticking with me. I love you, bud.” I smiled at him in the darkness, trying my best to show how grateful I was. Heartbreak was never easy.
Zayn watched me, the smile fading from his lips. “Mia.. there’s something you should know. I know that you just ended things with Liam, but I never stopped liking you. It’s crazy of me to even think you would take me but I waited. I learned more about you, I saw how you acted around Liam. This is way too soon, but I don’t know if I can wait any longer. We’re leaving for our next concert tomorrow in Texas, and you’re flying out to England to Liam’s sister. I just… I like you.”
His words sent shivers up my spine, and I bit my lip. “Zayn, I… I don’t know what to say.” “Don’t say anything.” I let out a small shriek as he pulled me down onto his chest, his lips finding mine without hesitation. I kissed him back, not knowing what other choice I had.
His hands were in my hair, pulling me closer. I could feel his tongue sliding across my bottom lip, begging for entrance, but I refused. It wasn’t as hard to pull away from Zayn as it was to pull away from Liam.
I sat up, shrugging off the thought and wiping the hairs off my face. “Zayn… I don’t know if I can do this. I just ended things with Liam; I don’t want to start things with you. Rumors might go around, and I’ll be the One Direction slut.” His eyes seemed to sparkle in the darkness as he watched me ramble.
“Then we won’t tell anyone. It will be a secret. What do you say?”
Niall’s POV
Sometimes, I absolutely detested being the trustworthy one out of five brothers. Liam and Zayn were my best friends and they told me everything. Little did they know that their stories corresponded with each other.
Jess and I were cuddling on the couch at her house, watching old re-runs of TV shows that were unknown to me. “Can I tell you something?” I asked, fully aware that what I had to say might be dangerous if it got out in public. I trusted Jess. “You can’t tell anyone.” Jess nodded, looking up at me with large hazel eyes. I smiled down at her, giving her a peck on the lips before shutting off the TV and moving to face my beautiful girlfriend.
“It’s about Liam… and Zayn… and Mia.” I laughed as she rolled her eyes, smiling at the crazy triangle of mixed love. “I have a feeling I know where this is going...” “I’ll just fill in the blanks.”
I took her hands in mine and played with her fingers. “Liam and Mia broke up.” Jess gasped, pulling away slightly but I held on. She relaxed, and I joined our hands together again. “Thing is, Liam can’t stop thinking about her. Last night he was in my room, talking about how much he missed her. He even told me he loved her. I haven’t heard him speak of someone in that way ever since Danielle. But wait, there’s more.
This morning Zayn came wandering into my room and told me he kissed Mia. And that they were now together, but it was a secret and they had agreed to only tell me, you, and Alice. I reckon Mia will get around to telling you today after we leave for Texas.”
Jess cringed at the thought of me leaving, and I pulled her close. She laid her head in my lap, and I stroked her hair. “This… this is crazy. Would Mia really go out with Zayn just hours after breaking up with Liam? We need to have a serious girl talk.”
I laughed as Jess pouted up at me. I leaned down and gave her a slow kiss. We pulled away, and I kissed her nose. “Now, I wasn’t supposed to tell you, but you know that I trust you not to tell anyone.” Jess laughed at my serious face, leaning up and pecking me on the lips one more time. “We should get you to the airport. You have a flight in two hours. And I promise I won’t tell.”
I grinned, sticking my pinky in the air.
“Pinky promise?” We both laughed, and Jess hooked her finger around mine.
“Pinky promise. Always and forever.”
