Tom stood in front of Yulia, his small frame barely blocking her from the towering figure on the windowsill. He turned to face the man, trying to mask the fear in his eyes with a look of bravery.
"So, you must be Yulia's dad," Tom said with a nervous chuckle.
Yulia's father let out a condescending laugh. "Yes, I am. And who might you be?"
Tom squared his shoulders, trying to look bigger and more intimidating. "I'm Tom, a friend of Yulia's. And I'm not going to let you hurt her."
The man raised an eyebrow, a smirk spreading across his face. "Oh really? And what makes you think you can stop me?"
Tom gestured to the small kitchen knife he held in his hand. "Well, I've got this knife, and I'm not afraid to use it."
The man let out a belly laugh, causing Tom to feel even more intimidated. "Oh, a knife? That's rich. You think a knife is going to stop me?"
Tom tried to keep his voice steady. "I don't know. But I'm willing to try."
Yulia's father let out a sigh, crossing his arms. "Well, this is going to be a short standoff then."
Just then, Yulia stepped forward, her hand on Tom's shoulder. "Stop it, Father. Tom has been nothing but kind to me. He's not going to let you hurt me."
Her father's smirk faded as he looked at her, his expression softening slightly. "Yulia, you know why I'm here. You can't run from your responsibilities forever."
Tom could see the fear in Yulia's eyes as she stepped forward, standing beside him. "I know, Father. But Tom has given me a place to stay, and I don't want to leave."
Tom felt a surge of pride as Yulia stood beside him, her hand still on his shoulder. He may not have been the bravest person, but he was willing to stand up for what was right.
The two men stood in silence for a moment, until Yulia's father let out a sigh. "Fine. But this isn't over. You'll have to face your responsibilities eventually, Yulia."
With that, he vanished into the night, leaving Tom and Yulia alone in the room. Tom turned to Yulia, a smile spreading across his face.
"I guess we're in this together now," he said with a chuckle.
Yulia let out a small laugh, her hand still on Tom's shoulder. "It looks that way, doesn't it?"
Just as Tom and Yulia were locking the windows to keep Yulia's father at bay, they heard the sound of the front door being slammed open. Before they could even react, Yulia's father had appeared in the room, a sinister grin on his face.
"Ha! I have you now, Yulia!" he laughed, grabbing Tom and holding him hostage with a knife to his throat.
Tom's eyes widened in terror as Yulia's father held him tightly. Despite his fear, he tried to remain calm, not wanting to make the situation any worse.
"Let him go!" Yulia cried, tears streaming down her face. "Please, Father, he has nothing to do with this!"
"Oh, I think he does," Yulia's father replied, his eyes gleaming with madness. "He's been hiding you from me, hasn't he? He's been keeping my daughter away from me, and now he's going to pay the price!"
Yulia's father cackled as he pulled Tom towards the window, still holding the knife to his throat. Just as they reached the windowsill, he jumped outside, taking Tom with him.
"Tom!" Yulia screamed, running towards the window. But it was too late. Her father and Tom were gone, vanished into the night. The girl peaked out the window to look for them. They couldn't have gotten far. And right she was, in the corner of her eyes she saw two silhouettes walking down the streets.
"That has to be them. That Tom guy is trembling just like earlier," she retorted, squinting her eyes, "Must be what he does when he's panicking." She let out a nervous chuckle, looking at her hand, "But, why was he trembling if he's the one who grabbed my hand? Is he really that scared of girls?"
As Tom and Yulia's father made their way down the street, Tom tried his best to reason with the gruff ghoul.
"Look, I know you're worried about Yulia, but I just met her tonight! I don't have any connection to her," Tom explained, trying to calm the situation.
Yulia's father simply let out a rough chuckle. "No one with a good heart would help my daughter unless they were in love," he said, a sly grin spreading across his face.
Tom felt his cheeks flush, but he couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "Come on now, ou can't seriously believe that. I just wanted to help her, that's all."
"Ha! That's exactly what a lovesick fool would say," Yulia's father retorted, a twinkle in his eye.
Tom rolled his eyes, but couldn't help the smile that crept across his face. Despite the danger of the situation, he couldn't help but enjoy the lighthearted banter with Yulia's father.
As they continued down the dark streets, Tom couldn't help but wonder what kind of world he had stumbled into, where ghouls, love, and danger all collided. But, for better or for worse, he was in it now, and he couldn't wait to see how this would played out.
Tom spaced out, deep in thought, and before he knew it, he at the entrance to a cemetary. His hairs stood on end, just what was Yulia's father going to do to him?
As Tom was being led by Yulia's father deeper into the cemetery, he couldn't shake the feeling of unease that was settling in the pit of his stomach. The silence of the cemetery, broken only by the crunching of leaves beneath their feet and the occasional rustling of bushes, added to the already eerie atmosphere.
Yulia's father walked with a purposeful stride, as if he had been here before. Tom couldn't help but feel like he was walking towards his own grave. He tried to calm his nerves by asking Yulia's father about the cemetery.
"So, what's the deal with this place?" Tom asked, his voice sounding small in the vast emptiness of the cemetery.
Yulia's father simply chuckled and replied, "You'll see soon enough, boy."
As they approached a large mausoleum, Tom's unease turned into fear. Yulia's father pushed the heavy doors open and gestured for Tom to go inside. The musty smell of the mausoleum mixed with the smell of fresh dirt and decay. Tom cautiously stepped inside and was met with the sight of a room filled with Ghouls, all glaring at him with hungry eyes.
Tom swallowed hard, his heart racing as Yulia's father stepped forward, a malicious grin on his face.
"Welcome to our meeting, Tom. I hope you enjoy your stay," Yulia's father said with a sinister tone, as the Ghouls closed in on Tom. As the door to the mausoleum creaked open, Yulia stepped inside, her heart racing as she scanned the dimly lit room for Tom. The musty scent of decaying flowers filled her nostrils, and she heard the sound of shuffling footsteps echoing off the stone walls.
She crept forward, her eyes darting from side to side, until she finally saw Tom. He was backed against the far wall, surrounded by a group of ghouls with razor-sharp teeth and glowing eyes.
Tom looked up at her, his eyes wide with fear, as the ghouls closed in on him. Yulia knew she had to act fast, but she also knew she was outnumbered. She hesitated for a moment, trying to figure out what to do, when suddenly, she felt a surge of courage.
She lunged forward, her hands becoming claws as she swiped at the closest ghoul. The monster stumbled back, caught off guard by her sudden attack, and she used the moment to grab Tom's hand and pull him to safety.
Together, they ran back out of the mausoleum and into the night, their hearts pounding as they put as much distance between themselves and the ghouls as possible. They didn't stop until they finally stumbled into a nearby park, gasping for air and trying to catch their breath.
Tom turned to Yulia, his eyes wide with amazement. "What the hell was that?" he asked, his voice trembling with fear.
"Just a little family drama," Yulia replied with a grin.
