I woke up this morning and took a shower before bathing Sedi. I drive us to the cemetery with flowers, she sits on her dad’s tombstone while I clean the dust, I drive us home after I get done.
Arriving home, we have waffles and ice cream which Zamo made for us. I have a movie date with the stranger; he will be picking me up from home at 1pm.
“Sisi, your phone is ringing.” Zamo shouts from the kitchen. I have been in my bedroom looking for an outfit.
“Hey, stranger.” I tease.
“You are not going to use my name? How are you doing today beautiful?
“I am okay thanks and you?” I ask.
“I am good thanks; I am running late; my flight was delayed due to bad weather.” He says.
“Oh, okay that’s fine. Rest when you get home, and we will meet some other time.” I say.
“Ref, we spoke about cutting the hand. I am simply informing you of a slight delay. You and I are going out to watch a movie, be comfortable, we will take a walk, please don’t wear those shoes of yours, I don’t have medical aid.” He says laughing.
“I will wait in sneakers and tracksuits.” I laugh.
“Great see you in a few.” He hangs up.
I sit on my bed in my under wear after taking out my tracksuits. Zamo knocks then walks in with Sedi on her back. She sits next to me laughing. She knows me too well; I am glad I will be disappointing her this afternoon.
“Let me guess, you cancelled?” Zamo with her eyebrows are raised looking at me expectedly. I laugh as she takes out her phone from her boobs.
“No, he will be here in a bit.” I state.
“Yho, thank heavens. I thought I would have to call Kea and Karabo to help me.” She laughs.
“For your information, I do go out you know. Besides why are you chasing me out? Wajola Zamo?”
“Sisi, only people in relationships can ask me that. Weekends are for lovers.” She laughs going out of my room.
The stranger and I are not in a relationship. He is a cool guy and all, but I am not in a relationship stage. I have nothing to offer him, except a broken heart. He deserves a happy and healed woman by his side. We are vibing. I get dressed in my pants and socks then walk to the kitchen to make hot chocolate.
I ended up napping on the couch and I am woken up by Zama asking me where I put the gate keys. I get up from the couch and find them under my cushion. She informs me that the stranger is outside, I run to my room to put on my top and to rinse my mouth. I find them on the patio.
The stranger never gets into my house, he says it’s still my husband’s house. I greet him and he takes my bag. Zamo leaves us saying Sedi is alone. I roll my eyes. “You don’t look like someone who hasn’t slept for 18hours.” I say while he drives us out.
“Is this your way of saying I am handsome?” He asks raising his eyebrows.
“You wish. How was your trip?”
“I wouldn’t call it a trip, but it was good. I got you something under your seat.” He says. My phone rings, Zamo is calling.
“Hey Sisi, is everything okay?” I ask.
“Mama, we are good. I wanted to ask if you have your keys Sedi and I are going out.”
“Zamo wajola neh, I do have my keys and if I finish early, I can pass by my parents. Don’t worry. Take the petrol card.”
“Use protection or I want double my salary when the new baby comes.” She laughs then hangs up; I laugh at her madness. I pull out a paper bag under the seat; I find a charm bracelet with one charm not connected.
“This is so beautiful. Thank you.”
“I saw this on a store window, and I thought of you. The charm you can put on after our ice skating this evening.” The stranger.
“I thought we are watching a movie.”
“Yes, we are, for dessert we are skating.” The stranger.
“I have never skated before.” I say looking at the skate charm; it is silver with pink laces tied in a bow.
“I know, I want you to start experiencing life again. For every new thing you do, you can add a charm; it will remind you how good you are doing on your bad days.” The stranger.
My late husband loved adventures, he went hiking, biking, spinning cars, sky diving. He lived his life to the fullest. I know he would want me to live life to the fullest, but I am scared. He knew he was leaving, and he tried to show my signs, I was not able to read his signs.
“Hey, did I say something wrong?” The stranger asks touching my hand.
“No, I really appreciate your patience.” I wipe my lone tear and squeeze his hand reassuringly.
“For a moment there I was scared. How was your week at work?”
“Ag, you know work is work. I remembered my banking pin yesterday.” I proudly say.
“I am proud of you; I am getting you those sour worms you love.”
We arrive at mall of Africa, and he opens my door. He helps me put on the bracelet. We walk handed in hand to the entrance.
“You do know that cars get stolen here, right?”
“Ref, give your brains a break.”
“Haven’t I told you the story of my sister’s friend? They looked for her car in the parking for 3 hours and it was.”
“Gone, I know you tell me this every time we come here.”
I look up at him and he smiles. This man is handsome; his trimmed beard looks moisturized and well kept. He is wearing black tracksuits with a white branded sneaker. His time piece is silver. He kisses my hand while we stand in the queue for tickets and popcorn.
We both get water, large popcorns to share and chocolates. Unlike Bongs, He loves chocolates, cakes, and hot chocolate. He also loves Marvel movies, so much we are here to watch the End game, which is his 3rd time watching. After the movie, I go to the bathroom to call Zamo to check on them.
“Hai stop calling us, we are busy.” She says.
“Bye Zamo, I love you both.”
I wash my hand and dry them before walking out, while I respond to texts messages from my family group. My mother wants us to have lunch together. She says she misses us; I offer to make a salad and to buy snacks. I promise to send her my contribution for the meat and their electricity.Kganya.
