Lerumo was not joking about buying us a house, I was upset with him, but I decided to enjoy our minication. I am now sitting on the balcony of the pyjama lounge drinking wine. Lerumo calls out for me, and I direct him to me. He has takeaway bags and a drink. He stands behind me and he gives me a kiss. I smile as he takes a seat next to me.
"I got sushi from that place you love." Lerumo.
"Thank you Mjita."
He dishes up for us and he serves me, we eat in comfortable silence. I take the empty plates into the kitchen. He follows me and he hugs me from behind. I wash the glasses; he helps me dry them then he makes us dance while he hums a song.
"Love, I am sorry for not informing you about the house, I saw it on the market, and I thought if we wasted time, it would be gone." Lerumo.
"How did you even know that it was on the market?"
"I was coming to check on the apartments, 2 of the tenants have left and I needed to check them before I refund their deposits." Lerumo.
"Whose apartment?"
"The kids, ours." Lerumo.
"I don't like that you decided on the house for us without talking to me first, but on a business side I see why you wanted to buy it. It is a great house with a lot of potential. I hope you don't make this a habit though."
"I swear, this is the last time. If you don't want to live here, we can look for a new place though." Lerumo.
"It is a good house, I like it a lot, I just thought that we would both contribute towards the sale."
"I know and I am sorry. I thought that we could work on the furniture and other things together." Lerumo.
"That would mean that the house is yours then."
"No, the house is part of our acquired estate. We are getting married soon and I made the sale in both our names." Lerumo.
"Where did you get my details?"
"Didn't you read the documents? The copy of your id you sent to my parents with your medical aid." Lerumo asks, he stops the dance. He leads me to the bedroom upstairs. He takes out the papers from the drawer and he hands it to me.
"Can we afford this?"
"Please don't worry about finances. I have a few investments, or should I say we have a few investments that bring us an income. We are good my love, you must worry about what colour your closet will be." Lerumo.
"I don't know what to say. What about the air filters you just installed for Lesedi?" Lerumo.
"That will increase the rental value, I found a company that does filters at work, and they will come see the house for a quote." Lerumo.
"I don't know what to say, this is all overwhelming. Thank you." I give him a hug.
"Anything for you, my love. I love you." Lerumo.
"I love the love you show me."
We go get dressed and then we walk around the estate, holding hands. Lerumo is a PDA guy. His hand moves from my hand to my shoulders and bum. We turn back when we reach a school. "Lesedi would love the school for the swing."
"I thought so to, when I was making enquiries about their fees, I have 2 quotes from this school and the one near the mall. I need one more which I will get on Monday." Lerumo.
"You sound like a true public servant, 3 quotes and get the cheapest." He laughs.
"I am your man, you know." He tickles me as we walk into the house. We receive a call from Lesedi, she is excited about being with Lungi's child she puts the phone down and runs off. Lerumo's mother greets us then she hangs up the phone. "When did they take her?"
"A few hours ago, check your phone they sent pictures of their dinner at that loud restaurant you hate." Lerumo laughs.
I still hate Spur; I swear every minute is someone's birthday. Lesedi is also part of the sing along crew, she reminds me of Shasha, I miss them, we should go down and visit them soon. I am glad she found someone else to take her because that can miss me.
We talk about wedding plans. Lerumo wants us to do the whole wedding celebrations, he says life is too short to wait. I agree with him, after Bongs passed, I wished we had a big wedding and the whole drama of changing 3 times. If Lerumo had his way, he and I would be long married with kids, the day we met at Karabo's wedding. But after my traumatic birthing experience I am not pushing any more babies from my nunu anytime soon. We wake up the following morning and take a bath together then we go out for breakfast, he then drives us to the reptile park, I buy a bracelet for Lesedi and my nieces from the ladies outside. Lerumo asks the security guard to take a picture of us sitting on the rail.
"I want to be like you when I get married." The guard comments.
"Give her your love and she will be yours, forget what everyone says." Lerumo.
"My family will surely hate her." The guard.
"Forget everyone, life is short to worry about people. You will be happy; I was bewitched long ago, and I am happy." Lerumo and the guard laugh.
We go on the boat for a cruise, we are offered finger snacks and a glass of bubbles. The really tried but hai, it was not worth the money we paid. Lerumo laughs when I ask the host if we will be getting more drinks because the pamphlet said a bottle not glass.
"I will ask my manager when we get off." The host.
Lerumo and I take pictures, his hand never leaving mine. I am offered a bottle of bubbles by the cruise organizers when we get off the boat for the inconvenience. I ask that we go the mall to buy a few groceries for us to cook dinner and breakfast in the morning. As always, the universe does not like me at all, we meet Kayise and her husband in the fridge section. I try avoiding them, but Kayise calls out my name.
"Hey."
"Friend, long time, happy new year." Kayise greets and I roll my eyes. Black people and happy new year until June. I greet her and her husband who invites Lerumo to a soccer match that he and his friends will be playing at. Lerumo agrees to go, I side eye him as he laughs with my nemeses. We continue buying food after they leave, Lerumo laughs at me.
"When you go to your friends, please leave me out of it, I heard you saying, 'we will see you.' Who is this we?"
"Why don't you want to go with us" Lerumo.
"I don't hang out with ex's." He laughs as I pay for the groceries. He drives back to the house. Listening to music.
