Day 4 of 5. I arrived home 30minutes ago, Zamo and Lesedi are not here. I am studying for my test tomorrow morning.
"Cherry yam, how are you? MaMthombeni would like to invite you for lunch Sunday."
I call Lerumo instead of texting him back. Why does his mother want to see me?
"S'thandwa sam. Is everything okay?" Lerumo.
"Hey love, why does she want to meet me? Did I treat you badly?"
"No, my love, she has been inviting you since our Cape Town trip. You don't have to go if you feel uncomfortable my love. " Lerumo.
"Thank you. I will call you later."
"Sure." Lerumo.
I put away my books after an hour and I start cooking the stew Zamo took out. I take shower with the stove on medium heat. Lesedi runs to me as I walk to the kitchen after my shower.
"Hello, my love."
"Mama, look, look daddy gave me." She jumps excitedly showing me a pair of fairy wings and a crown. I quickly mask my frown with a smile telling her it looks beautiful. She goes to her room to put her school bag away.
"And then?"
"Your man was at the school waiting for us, we didn't register him as a guardian so they wouldn't let him in. He was wearing blue greyish jumpsuit." Zamo.
"He didn't tell me that he was coming."
"I don't know. We are going to bath." Zamo.
She laughs walking out. I finish cooking the checkout homework book. Zamo is such an amazing person. Lesedi's book is signed, the teacher made notes thanking us. I dish up for us, we eat listening to Lesedi tell stories about school.
I go to my bedroom to call Lerumo while preparing for bed.
"Hey Fifi." Lerumo.
"Who is Fifi? I'm cherry yaka to you." He laughs greeting me calling me his love.
"Please ask Mama if I can join her at church on Sunday and find out what time the service starts."
"Muntu, you don't have to do that." Lerumo.
"Hai, if you don't want, send me her numbers."
"I sent them to you. How is my baby?" Lerumo.
"She's good. Apparently, daddy was at her school."
"I was, I missed her." Lerumo.
"Lucky her, thina we don't get surprised visits." Let me call my future mum maybe she will visit me." He laughs hanging up. I call his mother, but the phone doesn't get answered. I sleep.
Friday, you beautiful day. I wake up and get ready for work. I put on blue mum jeans, a white shirt, and sneakers. I comb my hair and take an orange blazer. I feel happy. Lerumo is so kind to me and thoughtful, I must call his mother after work.
The drive to work is short. I get to the conference room and switch on the coffee machine. I reply to texts from Lerumo. The facilitator arrives with the rest of my colleagues at 30 minutes later. We write our test and are offered food. I leave almost immediately it's 11am. I rush home to pack clothes for the weekend and to take Lesedi's medication for her visit.
"I love mjolo on you, yho kunini, thanks for the long weekend and early day." Zamo.
"I am not a horrible boss. You get your off's."
"Yes, like once a month. But since this guy, I am loving it for us." Zamo laughs helping me with our bags. I call Lerumo asking him to have lunch at his house, he tells me that his cousin is at the house. I hang up and fetch Lesedi from school.
I drive us to Lerumo's house. Lesedi is sleeping in the backseat when I meet a lady locking the gate.
"Hey, how are you?" I greet her.
"Hi, you must be Fifi. I was going to buy airtime to call you, Bhuti said you were coming." She opens the gate for me, and I drive in.
"Sorry. I am late. I had to pass by the school."
"Here are the keys, I need to catch a taxi." She says.
"Let me drop you off at the rank. Get in the front, the back is full." She gets in the front seat, and I drive to the taxi rank 3 kilometres away. She gets in the taxi, and I drive back to Lerumo's house. I put Lesedi on the floor sleeping, I take out wors and I put it in water, I then start cooking vegetables and pap. I call Lerumo's mother who promises to send me her church address and time that church starts.
I finish cooking then I wash the dishes and wait for Lerumo to come back.
I bath Lesedi and dish up for her. It's 6:30 when Lerumo unlocks the house. Lesedi runs to the door shouting out daddy. Lerumo puts down the shopping bags and picks her up.
"My princess. What a nice surprise." He throws her in the air, and she giggles.
"I came with mama." She tells.
"Daddy missed you so much. Hello mama." He pecks my lips.
"Hey Mjita, wam." I greet.
"You didn't tell me you were here; I would've come back earlier. I was at home with MaMthombeni." Lerumo.
"Oh, I thought I'd surprise you with dinner and a visit. Let me clear up the plates."
"Sedi, please fetch daddy's shoes." Lerumo says putting Lesedi down. He stands behind me and makes me face him.
"Why aren't you dishing up for us love?" Lerumo.
"You ate at home."
"You cooked for me my love and I will eat. My father says when you get home and find that your wife cooked, you always eat. Please warm our food. I can't wait for dessert. " His tone leaves me shivering.
I warm our food. We eat on the dining room table. Lesedi shares with him they wash the dishes. They disappear to the bedrooms. I receive a call from my mother confirming the time I will be arriving tomorrow morning. I inform her that I will be there after 10am.
She asks that I bring a salad with. I agree to it only to avoid her speaking to me longer. My plan is to arrive late then keep my peace and leave. I'm praying that Otsile doesn't test me.
Lerumo calls me to the bedroom and hour later. We take a shower together then we cuddle on his bed.

Lesedi.
