Song for Chapter: Illusory Light by Sarah Blasko

Alex finished cleaning my wounds and got up and walked out of the living room to put the first aid kit away. I gazed around the room once again, it was filled with Alex's scent. I slowly stood up and made my way over to the bookcase in the corner. He had so many books, a few I'd never heard of before. Sometime's I wished my life was fiction, an insight to someone's imagination. I had to face the fact that this was real life and it was the only life I had.

I turned and walked back over to the couch and sat down as Alex entered the room once more. He sat down beside me, studying me for a moment.

"Are you hungry? I can make you something to eat if you like?" he asked me.

The thought of food made me feel sick. Right now food wasn't what I needed. What I needed was some answers as to what the hell was going on. I softly shook my head as my gaze met his. I could see concern in his blue eyes that made me wonder why he was so protective over me.

"I want you to know that you're safe here." he said

"Thank you for everything you've done for me," I said "I don't know how I can ever repay you"

A small smile appeared at the side of his mouth "There really is no need to thank me Aria. You are innocent in all of this and I couldn't let that monster take advantage of you any longer"

"You said that you came by the diner because of me. Why me?" I asked.

The question had been eating away at me ever since I met him at Adrian's party. The night that I found out that he's a vampire. Alex shifted slightly on the couch clearly uncomfortable with that question.

"There are a lot of things you don't know Aria and I'm worried that if I tell you then you'll run off" he replied.

I frowned "I need to know the truth. What's going on?"

He reached over and took my hand in his. The coldness of his hand sent shivers down my spine "If I tell you then I need you to promise me that you'll hear me out"

My heart began to beat a little faster as I nodded. This was it, time for the truth. I watched him as he ran a hand through his hair

"I've known you all your life" he began "I've watched over you and protected you. When your mother found out she was pregnant she was scared"

I stared at him for a moment unsure of what to say. He sighed softly before carrying on.

"She knew that once word got out that you were on the way forces would be sent out to deal with you"

My eyes widened slightly "Deal with me?" I asked, my stomach turning "Hold on go back for a moment. What forces? Why was she scared of them?"

"You don't know anything do you?" he asked, the sound of worry in his voice.

I shook my head "I'm completely in the dark here"

"The supernatural community have a set amount of rules, that any supernatural being and a human cannot have children. If they do then the child must be killed" he told me

"What has this got to do with my mother?" I asked him.

"Not your Mother. Your father was feared by the vampire community, every community for that matter. They trembled at the very sound of his name" he continued "Your father isn't human Aria"

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out as my throat dried up. His words echoed in my mind, repeating over and over again. I ran my hand through my hair as I stood up and began pacing slightly.
