We pulled up to the cafe Shawn and Gus had lunch at, having to take two cars since there were more of us that couldn't fit in Lassies car. We all rushed out and I jumped over the side since the top was down, while Penelope used the door.
"Ashley!" She called making me grab her hand so this wasn't a trick and Penelope gets taken instead.
We rushed in and the lady at the front gave us a smile.
"Hi, welcome to Captain Ron's. Table for seven?" She asked, making me, Jules, Lassie and Shawn show our offical ID's so she was seeing two police badges, an fbi badge and Shawn's pass to the police station.
"There was a waitress here earlier, long brown hair." Shawn informed her, making her look out back.
"I haven't seen her in a while. She must be on break." She informed us.
"Where?" Jules asked.
"In the back, by the lockers." She told us making us rush.
"Penelope avoid people!" I called out since she was wearing heels.
We ran outback and saw no one, but we could definitely hear a beeping. We turned around to see another stop watch with the yin Yang sticker and a trail of blood.
"How do you know this girl?" Lassie asked.
"We don't really know her." Gus admitted.
"She served us our lunch." Shawn added as I took his hand in mine to comfort him.
'This was definitely not the welcome home I was expecting.'Lassie put on gloves and carefully grabbed the stop watch before opening the locker. When he did, he revealed a note that was there, made out of cereal this time.
"Oh, rats, Shawn, so close.
Too bad she has to die.
But how? And when? And where?
Don't bother asking why." Lassie told as Mary opened up a sardines tin.
"Well, he still owes us a riddle. This is just the amuse-bouche. He's taunting you." Mary explained.
"I believe he's using the Alpha-Bits to send a message, that he, too, believes that breakfast for lunch is way underrated." Shawn stated making Jules and Lassie to give him an annoyed look. " Would anyone like to try writing this message with a burrito? Open challenge. Take a shot."
"Shawn." I hissed threw my teeth to signal not now.
"Exactly. I rest my case. And now I want a burrito." Shawn told making me and Gus give each other a look.
"Can I talk to you for a second, please?" Gus told pulling him off to the side and I of course came along since this was a trio thing. "Dude, what are you doing?"
"What are you talking about?"
"A girl's life is at stake and you're acting like an ass? Making jokes?" Gus questioned.
"I mean, it's common for you to make jokes Shawn. But this is worrisome." I added
"You haven't taken this thing seriously from jump street."
"Exactly." Shawn told making us give him a confused look.
"Exactly?" We both asked.
"Gus, Bunny, I have to work like this, okay? That guy gets in my head, we lose. I have to do my thing. I cannot show weakness. And my fanciful rhetoric helps defuse a situation that's very tense for the group." He explained.
"Shawn we get that, we do. You've been like this for a lot of things, since we were wee children. You made me feel comfortable being open about my situation with Stanley with the others by being an idiot. And I love that about you, but I don't think that will work for this." I explained as I held his hand in mine before Gus spoke to get his attention.
"But Shawn, nobody is laughing."
"Trust me. They're laughing on the inside. That's how it works, buddy." He told making us give a worried look.
"Don't think so, but ok." I told before he focused on Gus.
"And I need you to help me out here. Do you think you can do that?"
"I'll try."
"All right." He told before looking at me. "Give me and Ash a moment Gus."
"Can you make sure Penelope is ok. She doesn't do well with death."
"She works with you." He pointed out.
"She stays behind the computer. She doesn't join us in field work a lot." I stated making him nod before heading to make sure she is ok.
"Ash, I need to know, that you are ok with all this."
"I'm ok." I told making him rest his forehead against mine.
"I'm sorry this is the welcome home you got."
"Don't be. I'm here to help you through this, wether we are dating or just best friends. Ok?"
"Ok." He told before quickly kissing the top of my head and we went back over to the others as Lassie began to read the new riddle.
"Little League is over.
You just became a pro.
Score a run,
we'll have more fun.
Make sure you beat the throw."
"Next location." Mary told as he ate the sardines.
"How much time do we have?" Jules asked making Lassie look.
"Seventeen minutes."
"Wow." Shawn told into his arm with a sigh.
"I want pancakes. Who wants some pancakes? Whipped butter. Maple syrup. What?" Gus asked making me face palm at his attempts to help as everyone just gave a confused look before Jules spoke.
"Make sure you beat the throw, insinuates a close play." Jules told, making Shawn work something out.
"You gotta touch home plate. You gotta touch home plate to score a run. That means the clue is back at the police station." Shawn pointed out before shooting Gus a thumbs up as thanks as we ran back to the cars. "Shot gun front of Ash's car!"
"Really?!" Penelope shouted.
"We need to get you runners if your joining us with this, Pen!" I stated.
