Ginny laughed as Selena downed an entire glass of water.

“Stop laughing at me!”

“It’s not my fault you put salt instead of sugar in the cookies,” Ginny gibed, still laughing.

“They look the same,” Selena scowled at her, narrowing her eyes, “This is bullying.”

“Go cry about,” Ginny teased, still laughing slightly.

“Maybe I will,” Selena said, jumping off the counter they were sitting on.

Ginny gasped and held her wrist before she could walk away, “You have to stay so we can make actual cookies.”

Selena sighed, pulling her wrist out of Ginny’s grasp. She turned around and walked towards the redhead girl’s legs. She placed her palms on Ginny’s knees and raised her eyebrows.

“I’m only staying if you stop laughing at me.”

Ginny stared at her, cheeks pink and mouth hanging open.

Selena rolled her eyes, put her hand on Ginny’s chin and pushed her mouth shut gently, “Are you done making fun of me?”

“Uh-,” Ginny stammered before breathing out a quick, “Yeah.”

“Awesome,” Selena exclaimed, a triumphant look on her face. The same look when she beat someone in a fight or a quidditch match. Not a smile, but more of a smirk. The shape of her eyes always showed her emotion best, whether they be narrowed angrily or squinted slightly like one does when they smile.

Ginny frowned, seeing herself yearn for Selena’s hands to be on her legs and for Selena to be looking at her so intently.

“Now, where is the actual sugar?”

Ginny jumped off and moved toward a cabinet. She opened and took out a bag of sugar, handing it out to Selena.

.

“Cally,” Selena sang, skipping into the Slytherin common room, Ginny trailing behind her.

Callum groaned, turning around and eyed the box in Selena’s hands, “What did you do this time?”

Selena gasped, placing a hand on her heart and stepping backwards. “You think so lowly of me, Cal.”

She stepped forward and reached the box out, opening the box dramatically, “I just want you to try a cookie that we made.”

“I definitely don’t trust that.”

“Well, if it makes you feel better, Ginny was in there with me,” She gestured to the redhead behind her, who nodded.

“I don’t know if that makes me feel better or worse,” he stated, tentatively taking a cookie from the box. He took a bite and immediately spit it out. “Selena, what the fuck!”

Selena squinted at him and pouted, “You don’t like my cookies?”

“Selena, Theo could make better cookies than this,” Callum gibed.

“What can I do,” Theodore asked, walking in.

Selena gasped excitedly, “Theo, do you wanna try our cookies?”

“Don’t do it mate,” Callum shook his head frantically.

Selena rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, “Snitches are bitches who fall into ditches so hard they need stitches.”

“Talking about stitches,” Theo said nervously. “Snape needs you in his office. Apparently you punched McLaggen so hard he needs stitches on his jaw.”

“Is he not a wizard? He could’ve just healed it on his own,” Ginny mumbled, rolling her eyes.

“He probably thinks it makes him look cool,” Callum stated.

“That’s not even possible. He looks like Umbridge married Filch and they had a kid,” Selena said.

“Let's not bring up Umbridge,” Theo grimaced.

“I hated her so much,” Ginny stated.

“I’ll say,” Selena said. She held up her arm, her sleeve dropping and showing her hand, which had a deep scar that read I will be respectful.

“Merlin, Selena,” Ginny grabbed her hand gently.

Selena shrugged, “She insulted my scars and my eye so I insulted her.”

“She was a little bitch,” Callum stated, remembering how long it took to comfort Selena after her hand was basically slashed open.

“You might have to deal with a Snape detention if you don’t hurry up,” Theo grimaced again. Snape’s detentions were almost worse than Umbridge’s.

“Right,” Selena said, handing Callum a box. ”Those have the normal cookies in them.”

.

“What he’d say.”

Selena and Callum sat in the common room after Selena’s meeting with her head of house.

Selena shrugged, “He said not to do it again. Although, he didn’t seem like he really cared.”

“Of course he didn’t care. He’s probably secretly cheering you on.”

The two sat in a comfortable silence, like they normally did at night. Selena never slept well unless she was with another person, and Callum couldn’t sleep without knowing that his best friend was ok.

“You and Ginny seemed close today,” Callum smirked, nudging her ribs with his elbow.

Selena pursed her lips as a very, very faint blush spread across her pale face. It was hardly noticeable. But, of course, Callum noticed and started chuckling.

“Little Lenny has a crush.” he exclaimed as he ruffled her hair. She rolled her eyes and laid down exasperatedly, laying her head in his lap.

“It’s not a crush,” she muttered. “I just realized how much I missed her. You know?”

She obviously didn’t truly miss her. She couldn’t even remember her, for Merlin’s sake. But there was some sense of longing that she felt towards the girl and finally talking and hanging out with her again comforted her.

It proved to her head that not everything from her childhood had completely vanished. Both of her parents vanished, her mom physically and her father emotionally. Her sight in her left eye vanished. But maybe her relationship with her old best friend didn’t.

“Well, I think your pink face says something different.”

“Shut the fuck up,” she mumbled, finally relaxed into the sofa they were on. She yawned quietly, despite the fact that her head was very loud.

Maybe it was alright if her and Ginny’s friendship vanished.

As long as something new, something better, arose instead.
