Harumi rolled over in her bed, peaking her eyes open. Everything was a bit blurry, but her vision slowly got better when warm morning rays peaked through the window.
The whitette tenderly put a hand to the empty spot next to her, a sad smile spreading across her face. After a solemn moment, she climbed out of bed and stretched, feeling well rested.
After she wrapped a shaw around her shoulders, the young lady walked into a simply decorated room, with little cloud decals on the walls, and a small moon night light.
She peaked into the small crib, seeing her son sleeping peacefully. Her smile grew at the innocence as her heart melted. The baby began to stir as it sensed someone nearby, rolling over onto his back and peaking open his bright green eyes.
The same as his father's.
"Morning, Wade. Did you sleep well?" She asked quietly as she lifted the infant out of his crib. The baby smiled while rubbing his eyes, then burrowing his head into his mother's shoulder.
The mother's smile only grew as she walked him out the small kitchen that also served as the living room. She put him into a highchair before opening the curtains, revealing a green valley that stretched for miles, green trees scattered here and there.
It was the dawn of spring, so colorful and vibrant flowers dotted the area casting a playful yet peaceful aura.
The mother went into the kitchen and started preparing baby food, mixing mashed carrots and pears. She then fed it to the boy who eagerly ate it.
Once he finished devouring the food, the two both changed into outdoor outfits and headed out into the valley, sitting under a large tree.
There, she helped Wade walk, and showed him the different plants and flowers. The little boy took great interest, sniffing every flower that the mother held up.
She then let Wade toddle around, squealing at every bug or animal that he saw. The white haired girl, sat and smiled proudly at her son, proud of what she was able to bring in the world. If only her husband was there to experience it with her.
She let the green swaying grass and the sounds of birds chirping calm her as she hummed a tune. Her son immediately perked up, and toddled his way back to listen to it.
He plopped himself on the mother's lap and listened, leaning his head comfortingly against his mother's chest. After she finished humming, Wade clapped his hands eliciting a wide smile from the white haired girl.
However, the moment didn't last as the sound of thunder crashed and dark clouds loomed. The mother picked up her child and the small basket that was now filled with an assortment of flowers.
Once they were back in the small cottage, the mother rocked her baby, putting him back to sleep for a bit of nap time. He peacefully closed his eyes, then drifted of into a deep sleep.
The whitette carefully lowered her son into his crib, and pulled a soft knitted blanket over his shoulders, before shutting the door.
The lights had gone out due to the thunderstorm, so she grabbed a beeswax candle and lit it, casting long shadows in the room.
The girl then brewed herself some tea, and headed to her favorite chair where she set the candle and mug on the nightstand next to it. On the bottom shelf of the bookcase, was a box filled with papers covered in fancy writing. The mother pulled it out and picked up one of the papers, an envelope.
She opened it and ran her hand across the writing, the rain comforting in the background. The mother then sat herself into the comfortable chair, allowing the cushion to envelope her as she held the letter to candle light, and began to read,
Dear Harumi,
Our son is so handsome, I wish I could see him personally. I know you're doing a great job caring for him, I can see the joy in his eyes. Make sure he knows that his father loves him, even if he might never get to see me.
I'm on my way to the dark island at the time I am writing this letter.
They have assigned me to send troops out to protect the borders, I will be leading. I know this isn't the greatest of news, but please remember that I am doing this for your future.
If I never make it back, always remember that I love you and our son endlessly. Keep in touch with my siblings, I know Kai has been eager to meet his nephew. The necklace I have enclosed, is a gem that I found while hiking through Hiroshi's Labyrinth. I brought it to a jeweler in Jamanakai village who turned it into a necklace. Everytime you feel that you miss me, keep this near.
I'm always with you, even from my inevitable grave. For the last time, I love you and Wade, and don't every forget that.
Love endlessly,
Lloyd
Harumi lowered the letter as tears glazed her eyes. That was the last letter he ever sent her. The battle was a huge victory, ending the war, but also her husband's life.
Her shakey hand wrapped around her Jade necklace as tears rolled down her cheeks.
She missed him dearly, and she would never stop missing him.
Year after year, she would sit and reread that letter, the words never getting old, and his face never fading. Once her son was old enough, she showed him all the letters that his father had written, and she watched as he spent hours reading them, hints of tears in his own eyes.
She felt bad that he never got to meet his father, but she made sure to tell him everyday that he was a hero and that he loved him very much.
Harumi never remarried, her loyalty never moved. She grew old, her son keeping her company. But he couldn't stay with her forever. He eventually got married and had kids of his own, Harumi paying him visits as much as possible.
Many people feared death, but Harumi didn't. She looked forward to the day when the could meet her love again. She died peacefully, friends and family surrounding her as she took one last breath, ready to meet her love at last.

A/N 😭😭😭 I'm so sorry I had to post this on Valentine's! I wasn't really in the mood for fluff, and I never intended for this to end like that.
I promise I'll make a more cheery AU soon. Maybe. You can never trust my promises.
Anyways, what did you think of this... depressing Valentine's story?
I also might post artwork for this one later on.
¡Gracias por leer!
