"So," Zoe started, turning down the volume on the show that Tyler, her, and I were indulging in, "I figured that I would just let my two favorite people in the world in on the fact that me and Alfie haven't been doing fantastic. I mean, it isn't like we are fighting, but there is definitely some pressure."
"Oh?" Tyler asked questionably.
Zoe laughed at his worriedness. It was common knowledge that Tyler's OTP was Zalfie. "It is nothing bad, just some built up tension. It will pass over soon, but I just wanted to inform you about it in case I lose my shit."
I responded with, "Fair enough." Honestly, I just had no idea how else to respond to a statement like that. I didn't want to end the conversation there, so I just used the most basic conversation starter there is. "Aside from that, how is everyone?"
Weeks had passed since the swim competition, and at the time I was at Zoe's place. The three of us just decided that we needed another night together, so we picked this fine Saturday to catch up on things. Technically, it was a pretty nice day, as Spring was coming around the corner due to the early April days, but Zoe, Tyler, and I were definitely not the kinds of people who like to celebrate that kind of weather. Being inside was where we belonged.
"Ugh, I'm terrible," Tyler said, tucking his knees up to his chest and dramatically burying his face in his knees. He gave some pathetic sighs and sobs. The only reason I was dismissing these actions like he was just acting them out, was because he was. Tyler loved to overdo everything, and I had known him for long enough to understand the difference between his acting, and his seriousness.
"How so?" Zoe said, replicating Tyler's position. She loved to play along with his actions.
Tyler added more silent sobs for emphasis. He looked up at us, whilst trying his best to keep a sad expression on his face. "So I met this guy," He started. Zoe and I both were super intrigued by this, and together we pushed him to tell us more. Finally, he continued, "And he turned out to be straight!" He said this like it was the worst thing in the world, which was actually sort of funny. I would've laughed, but I was still in character because I was busy playing along with Tyler's act.
"No!!" I said, voice seeping in forced shock. "Tyler, whatever did you do to him to make him choose to be straight? What a sin!" To be honest, it felt good to be an ass and mock people who mocked us all the time.
At this point, Tyler scrunched his face and chuckled. I could easily tell that he was not trying to let the giggles past, but they did non-the-less. Then, he broke into his usual, creepy cackle, and soon Zoe and I joined in.
"No but seriously," Tyler said in between his dying bits of laughter, "Do you know how many straight men I have fallen for? Like this guy was just so hot and ugh, it sucks."
"Like how hard does it suck?" Zoe asked, cheekily.
"Probably harder than all the times I sucked him in my dreams these past weeks." And at that statement, I lost all sanity, rolling on my back in a fit of laughter. He added for more emphasis, "And that was quite hard, mind you."
Come to think of it, it probably wasn't great that the three of us were laughing about this situation as there were people's emotions at play in this problem, but all the same, we did. I guess that is where I got the habit of making every deep and dark conversation shallow and light.
When the mood sobered up for the second time, I finally decided to talk. "So I got a dilemma," I asked, almost hesitant to whether or not I wanted to pursue this route.
Tyler looked at me and said, "Does this dilemma have something to do with your little crush on Connor Franta?" Shit. There was no backing out of this now.
