*Savannah's POV*
Abigail has been "working" at Dina's preschool for a little over a month now, and she seems to really be enjoying it. She and I have settled into a routine. Each day, she comes back to my office after the school dismisses and tells me all about her friends in the class, the activities they did, and, of course, Ms. Dina.
I was certainly not happy to hear that my little Abigail got in trouble within just a few minutes in her new role as Dina's little helper. She was nervous walking into my office that afternoon, unknowing whether or not I had already heard from Dina before she arrived. I had. Dina called me as soon as Abigail drove off with Victor to tell me what happened. I decided to go easy on her this time. After all, I did neglect to explain to her that she would be able to stay little while at the school. Mama's aren't perfect, I guess.
I didn't really know Dina too well before Abigail started with her. When I came across her on a Cg/l social networking site, I vaguely remembered her from our time in high school together. Though we were never close, we did graduate together and had some mutual friends. I was happy when she messaged me, commenting on the picture I had posted of Abigail and I. After chatting for a bit, we came up with the idea of having Abigail be her little helper at her preschool in the city.
We've been communicating constantly ever since, and we've really grown a connection through our bonds with Abigail. Dina adores her, constantly telling me how much Abigail has begun to mean to her. It makes my heart so happy that they have grown so close.
I've been needing to have a conversation with Abigail about Dina and how she fits into our lives. I'm nervous, unsure of what she will think. But I need to have this talk with her before long.
"Abigail, sweetie." I said as we ate dinner at the kitchen island. "Can you be big for me? Just for a few minutes?"
She nodded. It usually takes a second for her to push herself back into her big headspace. I don't like to do it to her too often, and rarely ever need to. But to have this conversation while she's in her little headspace I feel would be unfair of me.
"What's up?" She asked, her voice shifting to her more mature, yet still quite youthful tone.
"I've been meaning to talk to you about something." I said nervously. "I hope I don't sound too upfront, though that may be the only way to sound."
"What is it?" Abigail said with calming curiosity, putting her hand in mine. "You can be honest with me."
"I know I can." I said with an anxious smile, taking a deep breath. "How do you feel about Dina?"
She looked at me with a bit of confusion on her face.
"She's great?" She said mostly in the form of a question. "I feel really comfortable with her. I like her a lot. Why?"
"Oh," I said, nervously dismissing the subject. "I was just curious."
Abigail clearly didn't buy what I was saying, evident by the smirk on her face.
"And how do you feel about Dina?" She asked with a grin, taking a bite of her pasta.
"She's great." I said, too nervous to do anything but repeat what Abigail had just said.
"Really?" She asked, smirk widening. "Because it looks to me like you think she's a little bit more than 'great.'"
Caught red-handed.
"I'm sorry. It was stupid. I shouldn't have even brought it up. Just forget-." I panicked, trying to go back on what I was beginning to say.
"Savannah." Abigail said soothingly, snapping me out of my anxious spiral. "How do you really feel about Dina?" She asked, half serious and half knowingly playful.
"Um." I hesitated, taking another nervous breath before speaking. "I really like her. Like I really like her."
Abigail smiled.
"I know." She said giddily.
"How did you know?" I asked, confused.
"Just because I'm in my little headspace nearly every day doesn't mean I can't see all of the times texts pop up on your phone from her, or how you constantly smile down at your phone while talking to her." She said with a happy laugh. "You're really not good at hiding how much yu like her."
I blushed, embarrassed at my little one's point.
"Savannah." She continued, putting my hand in hers. "I don't want that kind of relationship with you. I don't want that kind of relationship with anyone, to be honest. Sex and romance and all that stuff has just never really appealed to me. But if you want those, by all means, go for it. You deserve them. I'll be here, being your little girl, through all of it."
I wiped away the tears that were welling up in my eyes. I truly have the best little in the world.
"Now ask her out." She commanded as she took the last few bites of her food.
"Why don't you ask a little nicer and I'll consider it." I said back playfully.
She rolled her eyes with a smile. "Please ask Dina out on a date."
"Only because you asked so politely." I said as I pulled out my phone and pressed the "Call" button in her contact.
"Hi Savannah!" She answered after a couple rings in her normal cheery voice. "What's up?"
"Oh nothing," I said, trying to sound casual. "Just sitting here finishing up dinner with our dear Abigail here."
"Hi, Ms. Dina!" She yelled excitedly, clearly back in her little headspace.
"Well hello, Ms. Abigail." She said back in a playfully serious tone, making Abigail giggle as I switched the call to speaker phone.
"So Dina," I said, my heart starting to race with nerves. "I wanted to ask you a bit of a weird question."
"A weird question?" Dina asked curiously.
"Yeah, umm." I hesitated before I felt a squeeze of my hand from Abigail, who looked up at me with a motivating smile. "I was wondering if you would want to maybe go out some time." I finally said awkwardly.
"Go out?" She asked. "Do you mean like a date?"
Abigail nodded excitedly, signaling for me to say yes.
"Yeah." I replied anxiously. "On a date."
After a moment of painful silence, Dina's voice returned.
"I would love to." She said cheerfully.
My smile beamed, almost matching the one that Abigail had on her face.
"I'm free tomorrow night." She said, inviting me to invite her out.
"That sounds great!" I answered with excited relief. "I can pick you up at your school if you want."
"That would be perfect!" She said back. "But what is Abigail going to do? She can't be left alone for the night."
"Ooo ooo can I come? Can I come?" Abigail asked both Dina and I enthusiastically.
"Is that alright with you, Dina?" I asked, chuckling at my little one's energy.
She replied with excited laughter.
"I'd love nothing more."
