Chapter 8: Do You Have Mini-Amnesia?

Chapter 8:

"So x is equal to 5? But I'm getting 4."

"Really Tyler? We've gone over this 5 times!" I sighed. "Okay, one more time. If you shift 8 over to the other side and divide it by 2, you get 4 but the question asks you to add 1 too. So your answer should be 5. Got it?"

"Yeah. No. Okay one last question. Why do we add 1?"

"That's the whole question Tyler!" I exclaimed. "Only one more time. We add 1 because it says 2 consecutive kilometres and that-"

"Oh, I got it!" He started jumping up and down then he ran over to hug me. He literally pounced on me and as a result of that I was lying on the floor with Tyler on top of me. I could feel the air around us tense a bit. Our faces were inches apart and our lips almost touching. My heart was racing fast. I started to breathe heavily. He leaned in closer and I automatically closed my eyes. But then I felt him get off of me. I realised what was going to happen and at the thought of that a blush rose to my cheeks. Flustered, I got up not knowing where to look. I decided to break the silence since it was becoming awkward.

"Um, are you hungry?"

"Yeah, sure." He replied clearly still in a daze.

We both walked down stairs into the kitchen. I took out a bowl and a bottle of salsa from the refrigerator and poured it into the bowl. I walked into the pantry and pulled out a packet of nachos and placed it on the table. I gestured to him to help himself. He started to eat but then suddenly the bowl of salsa tipped over and ended up falling all over my t-shirt.

I walked calmly towards the sink with a poker face and poured glass of water. I could feel Tyler's suspicious stare behind my back. I walked back to Tyler and stood in front of him. I looked at him intently and chucked my glass of water at him. I burst out laughing and Tyler crunched his face and slicked back his wet hair dripping down his white t-shirt. He had a dangerous look on his face which told me I should probably run.

I ran through the kitchen doors and through the living room into my backyard. I searched frantically for an escape route but I was a little too late. I saw a shirtless Tyler walk towards me with a dark look casting his face which sent shivers down my spine. He suddenly stopped, turned a bit and picked up the hose and turned the pipe on.

I was probably dazed by shirtless Tyler because by the time I took my eyes off of his abs, I was completely wet and Tyler was laughing on the ground near the pool.

I was so frustrated. I stormed towards him sat behind his back while his front was facing the pool. I mustered all my strength and pushed him as hard as I could and then he fell into the pool.

Now it was my turn to laugh. As he rose from the pool, he looked innocent and suddenly I knew he was up to. I crawled back but I was too late. He pulled me into the pool with him.

When I came back up, I realised how close he was to me. Seriously, how many times is this going to happen today? I thought to myself.

Tyler stared into my eyes and I could feel the intensity in his look. His eyes sent me into a daze and mesmerised me. He leaned in closer and it somehow pulled me in too. Our lips touched and my heart exploded. Our lips moved in sync and I closed my eyes. I could feel the fireworks in my heart. His kiss sent me into overdrive and made my mind intermingle with many thoughts swarming through my head. He tangled his legs with mine and pulled me closer. The water of the pool seemed to flow along with our movements and add to the effect of this moment that we shared.

We broke apart after what seemed like forever. He stared into my eyes once again and I drowned in his deep green eyes just like the first time I met him. I was so occupied with admiring his eyes that I didn't realise his hand on my waist, making me uncomfortable. I decided to break this moment and I have no clue why. I backed away from him, making him loosen his grip on my waist.

"Um I'll get you some clothes to wear." I jumped out of the pool and I hurriedly went up the stairs to Ryan's room.

My heart was beating really fast. I had no idea what that kiss meant. I was completely confused. I changed into new clothes and grabbed one of Ryan's shirt and a pair of shorts. I walked to my room and found Tyler standing awkwardly in my room. I handed him the clothes and without an exchange of words slipped into the bathroom to change.

I waited for him to come out. I was getting scared of Tyler's reaction. I was terrified of Tyler's response to our intimate make out session in the middle of a pool. What if it meant nothing to him? What if he ignores this and continues to be normal with it?

I saw Tyler come out and I started fiddling with my hands. I had so many questions but I had no way to put them as questions for Tyler. I didn't know how to say the first words but gladly I didn't have to. Tyler spoke the first words.

"So you want to talk about it?"

"What?" He's talking about the kiss you dumbass. How could you forget so fast? Do you have mini-amnesia?

"What happened in the pool?" He asked me suggestively.

"Oh yeah." My face was flushed and I probably looked like a wreck right now.

He asked me the question I wanted to ask him the most. "Did it mean anything to you?"

"I don't know. You?"

"Yes. It did. It meant a lot to me." I was so surprised by this but he continued ignoring my shocked expression. "Selena, I have liked you since 8th grade but you never noticed me. You know, your popular, I'm not. Anyways you were never like the rest. You were always so sweet and only mean to the people who were mean to you or your friends. I like you, Selena. Do you?"

"Uh I..." In that moment I realised that I do like him, even though we only just met but we had a certain attraction and I was determined to have it. I didn't like him a lot but I knew I would.

"Yes."

A smile spread across his face as I said that particular word which would probably change my status from 'single' to 'in a relationship'.

"Then will you do me the honour of being my girlfriend?"

"Yes." I mimicked his smile and we were both smiling now.

He took a few steps forwards and then he pulled me in and kissed me passionately.
