THEY RAN up the stairs that led to the higher levels, sounds of glass breaking came from behind them. Seraphina coughed and hacked, vehemently resisting and rejecting the infected gas that started to spread.

More soldiers from Team Echo were securing the area, some were shooting. Zombies that were alive civilians not so long ago were storming the building. Seraphina saw the soldiers being left behind in the chaos, which left a lump in her throat.

I've done this before.

She didn't look back again, even with the screaming.

"Go! Keep going!"

Two soldiers were leading the way, guiding the three agents to their ride out. A jeep was up ahead, where one hopped in the back, then one in front of the wheel. Seraphina and Helena squeezed in the back seat (three of them now) and Leon took the passenger.

"Where did all the ash come from?" Helena asked.

"Probably from the missile." The driver answered.

No wonder the people evacuating got infected. Gas being spread right in front of you was hard to avoid...this must have been the cause of the infection in Tall Oaks. The cause where all the calls for Seraphina to check was coming in.

"HQ to  Charlie. Change of plans. Entry to Tatchi is prohibited. Retreat and wait for further orders."

The driver's radio pinged and the same voice came up. HQ called in first and Charlie answered on the same line. The soldiers with them just listened.

"What? But Echo team is still in there! They need us!"

"Fall back, that's an order. We can't risk any more men in there!"

"Dammit."

Seraphina felt slightly nauseated. Those words and commands were so bitterly familiar. As the driver pulled the vehicle further down, more of the undead began crawling and walking around. Some of them even started to grab at the window, hearing noises inside.

"They're gonna surround us, we gotta go!" The soldier in the back exclaimed impatiently.

"I got it, I got it." The driver said hurriedly.

Even with windows and a protected car, you could barely even see a couple feet away. The ash grown so thick in the area, reducing all visibility for miles. It's dark color made everything look dim and gloomy. If they breathed that in, there's no way they would be safe.

In the ashy smoke, dark figures shrouded in shadows were seen. They were quickly approaching the car, grabbing at it with their hands. The zombies growled and roared, aiming for the nosiest thing in the distance.

Getting out of the anxiety filled streets, the smoke cloud eventually cleared away at a certain point in the area. The jeep came to a stop, while the two soldiers observed their surroundings for any danger.
