THE THUNDEROUS train horn blared, the blinding lights flashing in their eyes, and the train itself only got closer and closer. All three of them scrambled to figure out where it was going. Seeing as it won't stop, Helena laid herself flat again the tunnel walls.
Doing the same, Seraphina felt her clothes rustle in the harsh wind as the train passed by right before her eyes. If she leaned forward, the speed of it alone would kill her and slice her body to death. Thinking about that image made her grimace.
Once it fully passed by, they all sighed of relief.
A scream swept the thought of relief away, seemingly coming from a woman's voice. Nobody commented on it, not even a single word. There wasn't anything that they could do to help that woman, except to keep running.
A few rabid dogs came barking down the tunnels, jumping and skittering around. The exact same thing happened in Raccoon City, where infected dogs became aggressive for any flesh. Events were repeating so similarly, it was beginning to get a little creepy.
The sound of a man screaming came next, as the undead tore into his flesh and bit into him like a sponge. His suit now tattered and bloody, with gaping wounds mixed of skin and bone. Perhaps back then, Seraphina would have desperately tried to save him, but these days, it's useless to try.
Why had she become so desensitized?
What had changed between this time and those years before?
Is it the fact that she sees the dead all the time, it doesn't matter if one more dies? All those faces, bodies and names, she cannot even name a single one.
Seraphina didn't even deserve any title.
I'm no good at my stupid job.
She didn't even deserve the privilege of living.
Another bullet blasted into the head of a undead dog, tearing right through the skull and it still managed to move around. Flailing and spazzing around, the dog was shot a couple more times before finally falling dead.
Seraphina's mind often clouded with thoughts, filling her head with grey matter. When you've become so used to a way of thinking, it becomes comforting to stay that way. Breaking out of it is terrifying, even if it meant becoming better.
She bent down towards another zombie, running her fingers over the dull yet pale skin. The veins nearly popped out of the skin, so dark they appeared nearly black. This zombie was a young male, with a set of rotten teeth and yellow-white eyes.
The train horn blared in the distance.
Seraphina stood up, when Leon had pulled on her arm so hard her body was pushed towards him. He was squeezing her very tight, she swore she couldn't breath with her chest properly. They laid flat against the wall, barely missing the train whipping past them. His face tickled against her ear, heavily breathing and being out of breath.
