You Are My Idol

Chapter XVII

Everyone already left, and I was alone finishing cleaning everything to close the cafeteria, when a man with dark clothes and a hat walk in and comes towards me. I got scared but still kept my posture as an attendant.

-Good evening, sir, I am sorry, but we are closing right now. May I help you with something?

-Do you really think that you are going to be able to work in another country far away from us and be happy?

After hearing that I realized that this man in front of me was my father. He didn't seem okay, and his voice was almost fading. For a second, I felt sorry for him, after I left was this that he became. No, I stopped myself from thinking that they never cared about me, and it wasn't for showing up like that in front of me that would make me change my mind.

-I'm sorry sir, but as I told we are closing. Please leave the store. – I pretended that I didn't know him.

-It's going to be like that. You don't even recognize your own father? At least tell me when you are leaving! – He raised his voice as he was getting irritated

-I don't have a father, my family is Thalia's family. You never cared about me and now you expect that go back talking to you and care for you just because I am going to be someone in life. I can't pretend that nothing happened, I'm not like that. And until the day that you realize that you made a mistake and you finally, have the guts to tell me that. I don't have any family. Now leave and leave me the hell alone. – I kept that inside of me for many years and finally had a chance to let it all out.

But then, he didn't say a single word after hearing all that. He just took his things and left. Deep inside I knew that I hurt his feelings but I really needed to say it.

I finally closed the shop and Thalia was already waiting for me at the entrance. I got into the car with a sad look on my face, because even though I was mad with my parents and all that I said was true, it still hurt, deep down still hurt a lot. Thalia looked at me and, as usual, asked.

-What's wrong? Did your boss got mad at you because you are leaving? You told her in advance.

-It as nothing to do with work. They were sad that I'm leaving but happy that I finally can follow my dream. The problem is that my father came in not long ago.

-Your what? Did what now? – She was so surprised as I was when I saw him.

-You heard me well. He came in and talked to me like nothing ever happened, he asks me to go see them and to say goodbye before we left. – At that point I was hurt and mad with him.

-Did you tell him when we were going? – Thalia didn't want anyone to know where we were going in fear that someone e might ruin it.

-Of course not! I told him that you were my family and that until the time that he gets the courage to admit what he did wrong I will not say anything to him and that they don't have anything to do with my life anymore.

-Are you okay? It's the first time that you said everything you felt to him, and I know that that hurts you.

-I'll be fine, I just need time. – I gave her a smile and look out through the car window.

We arrived home and Thalia's mom had a weird look on her face. She seemed worried about something. But she didn't say a word, she just looked at me and told me to sit at the table to eat something before going to sleep.

-Mom, what's wrong? – After so many time living with them I got used to call her Mom too.

-I received a call from your aunt, she told me that your father is battling with depression. And that things weren't going well with your mother too.

-Don't worry about that. He is doing that to call for attention, that's what he told me that I was doing when I was like that. If they think I'm going to talk with them because of that, they are mistaken. So, don't worry and focus on our future. – After saying that, I looked at Thalia and smiled.

We finish eating, and I went to take a bath while Thalia helped mom in the kitchen. It was a long day for me, but I needed to be strong and keep going. I had to that, for me and for those who helped me. But for now I was going to take a hot bath and try to relax a bit.

Finishing taking a bath, I heard Thalia screaming my name from the bedroom. I rushed out the bathroom and went to her, she looked so happy that her eyes were sparkling. That was when she told me that the papers we needed for the trip had finally arrived and that we could go as soon as I finished giving the time I had to give to my boss.

All though the day was rough, it ended pretty good. We just need to give a little step at the time.
