"(Y/n), just step on the accelerator," Steve rolls his eyes at your crumpled form behind the wheel.

"No! There's a cat on the road!"

"It's behind us!" He rolls his eyes exasperatedly.

"What if I go backwards by accident?"

"It's not how reverse gear works. Just step on that damn pedal."

"Don't tell me what to do, I'll cry," you whine, seeing the cat disappear behind some bushes in the rearview mirror. Your hands grip the wheel harder as you see a car turn the corner of the road. "Another car! Steve, we're going to die."

Steve says silent as the car peacefully passes you, the driver giving you a quick wave as a greeting.

"How aggressive," you return it with a tense smile before narrowing your eyes. "Tell you what, I think that's enough emotion for today. We should go home now, you drivin'?"

You go to exit the car, finally escaping the terrific driver seat, but Steve grabs your wrist.

"We've barely moved two meters," he frowns. "You need to trust yourself with that car, (Y/n)."

"Yeah, right. Watch me get too confident and kill someone by accident!"

"I hope if you do kill someone, it will be by accident," Steve mumbles. "Look, if you don't start driving, you're never gonna be able to get your own car. I got my license first, that's how I talked dad into buying me that baby," he taps the dashboard proudly.

"But I don't want a car," you shrug.

"You kidding, right? Imagine all the time you'll drive to Mona's house without having to ask me to drop you off. And you won't have to hear me yell at you to hurry so we won't be late to school. You'll be going on your own!"

You give him a funny look, considering his arguments. You did have a bike, after all, and that was more than enough.

But you did often ask Steve to drive you to Mona's lately, mainly because it was starting to get cold outside. And you thought, if you learned to drive and got your license, you would brag about it to the boys, who would be so jealous or impressed. A mix of both, probably.

"Alright," you smile and step on the accelerator. You were already in first gear, and you had abruptly put your foot on the pedal, thus the car jolted forward, making a horrifying roaring sound as you screamed frantically, unable to hear Steve telling you to let go of the accelerator. Your eyes widen as you see the same car from before cross the street, this time, in front of the car.

Your reflexes are fast, and you step on the brakes, the car stalling right in front of the unaware animal. The cat stops in front of you, and you and Steve stare at it, wide eyed, while it defiantly sits before the engine, as if wanting to assert dominance.

You let out a shaky breath as Steve turns off the motor, leaning back in the passenger seat with a sigh.

"You're never driving again."

"Here we are," Steve parks in front of Hawkins High with a sigh. "Have a good day, (Y/n)," he gives you a shit-eating grin in the rearview mirror, and you glare at him.

The fucker had eaten all of your favourite cereal during his midnight snack, and there was none left for you this morning. He knew you couldn't eat anything else for breakfast without feeling like vomiting, and you could only drink orange juice while sending threatening glares his way as he happily devoured his toasts.
