"I don't believe you," Mona shakes her head as she places the cornflakes box back on the shelf.
"What?" You gasp, offended.
"You're supposed to be her friend," Kazuo backs you up, pointing at her accusingly. "You're supposed to trust each other."
Over the last month, you had discovered he was more of a drama person than you. You wouldn't accept being dethroned, so you agreed on being drama queen and king, allying to have the best chances to embarrass Mona in public places.
"Cornflakes do not emit radiation that gives you superpowers," she sighs, placing her hands on her hips.
"Of course they do, darling," You argue. "I had some this morning, and look what I can do."
You punch Kazuo in the stomach without holding back. He lets out a breathless, strangled scream and falls to his knees, holding his abdomen in pain.
"Super strength-" you demonstrate proudly as your friend tackles your legs in retaliation, making you fall to the floor as well. "Ouch- hey!"
"I don't know you," Mona runs a hand down her face as you and Kazuo both struggle to stand back up.
"See?" You ignore her previous statement, taking the cereal box back from the shelf. "That's why you need to buy these cornflakes."
It was Friday after school, and you and your friends had decided to stop by the grocery store before hanging out at yours.
"I'm not wasting money on this," Mona shakes her head and tries to snatch it back from your hands, but you've already shucked it at Kazuo, who was now running to the cashier. You and Mona follow, almost crashing into him when he suddenly freezes before reaching the end of the shelves.
Mona grabs your waist before you can slip on the tiled floor and make a fool of yourself, which you totally didn't do earlier by fighting with your friend. You're thankful nevertheless and squeeze the hand that was holding you gratefully.
"Why did you stop?" You whine as you look over Kazuo's shoulder to see what made him freeze. "We almost got the cornflakes."
"I wouldn't have paid for them," Mona shakes her head, looking over too.
Kazuo doesn't have to say anything as your eyes find Chad's car on their own. You steal a glance at Mona, who had narrowed her eyes pensively. Over the last few weeks, you had often felt eyes burn the back of your head and turned around to see Chad murder you, cut your head off and display it for everyone to see with just a gaze.
It was true you played a role in the decrease of his popularity. Nobody liked a pervert. Or maybe a pervert that wasn't hot. His reputation had gone from the funny guy from the basketball team to the pervert that got beaten up by Harrington's sister.
That was one of your many nicknames. From 'Steve's Sister' to 'Lunch Tray Terminator', your favorite to this day being 'That Crazy Cafeteria Chick', everyone had found a creative way to refer to you without the use of your first name. Some also said you were to be crowned Queen of Hawkins, since Steve used to be King before Billy snatched the crown from him with his mullet and ability to chug down an entire beer bottle in one go after a hundred push-ups. You were very uninterested by the title.
You enjoyed the drama nevertheless. It was refreshing and made your school life not too boring.
A few days ago, Barbara's funeral happened. You didn't go, you had only talked to her a few times and her parents would have found that weird. Nancy did, of course. There was no body in the coffin. Her corpse was somewhere in the Upside Down, unless it had been eaten by terrific creatures or decay.
