"(Y/n), are you paying attention?" Your math teacher's voice snaps you out of your thoughts, and you jump realizing she's standing right in front of your table.
"No," you answer. "Sorry."
A few muffled laughs are heard, and Mona next to you nudges you to remind you not to say anything stupid. A bit late, that is.
Luckily, your math teacher was an understanding one, which is why you liked her a lot. She smiled and commented about it soon being lunchtime and that she was hungry, too, before returning to teaching.
"Stop staring at her with your heart eyes, you're gonna creep her out," Mona whispers in your ear and you compose yourself.
You don't even try to listen to the rest of the class, your mind immediately going back to yesterday's events, Will's episode and the search for Dart, who you still hadn't found. You wonder if looking for him is still worth it. He could be anywhere in Hawkins now.
Finally, the bell rings, and you and Mona follow the flow of students to the cafeteria, where Kazuo was already waiting. He was not in your class, except in French, thus he couldn't wait for lunchtime so he could be with his new friends. He was still painfully awkward with his classmates.
"Ayo," you greet him as he walks up to you.
"Ayo."
"Urgh," Mona sighs in fake tiredness as you and Kazuo high five. "Come on, let's get some food before they're out of desserts."
"The only way into Mona's heart," you say with grandiloquence. "Desserts."
"Shut up," she smiles and pulls you towards the lunch line.
"That's how we became best of friends," you murmur to Kazuo so that the girl cannot hear you. "I gave her my floating island because there was none left for her, and to be honest the cafeteria's are disgusting. Somehow she likes them, but it's only because it's sugary."
"Understandable," he nods.
You get your food -there were still desserts for Mona, fortunately- and find yourself standing in the middle of the cafeteria, trying to find a free table.
"I think there's one over there," Mona starts walking towards said table, and you smile in relief, at least until you hear a slapping sound.
"Nice ass, girl," someone says, and a few people laugh. You turn to Mona to find her frozen in place, eyes wide in shock. Sitting near where she was now standing still, a brunette guy with glasses surrounded by his friends. It seemed he was pretty popular.
It seemed he had just slapped your best friend's ass.
You decide to profit from the fact one of your hands just dropped to your side, unbalancing your tray and letting all your food fall on the floor in a big mess of cluttering and shattering sounds, which caught the attention of most people in the cafeteria. Now that your tray was empty, it was quite the great tool to smash into someone's face.
You hear a big crack as the tray hits the guy's face, and you hope it's his nose breaking and not his glasses, or maybe both. You don't take the time to check, deciding to strike again and send his chair backwards into the floor, making him fall at your feet. How convenient.
You kick his ribs with no mercy, and this is when one of his friends finally reacts and tries to punch you in the face. You dodge, not very gracefully, and Kazuo, who was trying to stop you so that you wouldn't get expelled, takes the hit. You hear him grunt in pain and stumble backwards into a table and probably some people's lunch. You hope it won't ruin the leather jacket.
