"You're very noisy," you comment as Kazuo bumps into one of the trashcans you were digging in, looking for cardboards.

"I can't help it," he answers. "I need attention."

"Understandable. Usually Mona gives me all the attention I need," you nod in approval, finding a rather large piece of cardboard that would be very useful. "Until she has enough and kicks me out of her house. I miss her."

"She seems like a great friend," Kazuo takes the cardboard from your hand to dump it into the pile you had gathered.

"She is," you smile, thinking back about how you met in seventh grade. You were happily enjoying being invisible in math when Mona was called to the board. The girl was sitting in front of you that day, so when she got up you were the first, and maybe the only person, to see the very obvious red stain on her pants. Without thinking, you had raised your hand and went to the board in her place, getting a handful from the teacher when he realized you didn't know the answer. When he allowed you to get back to your seat, head hung low, you had passed Mona a note telling her about her situation. And that was how Mona's painless periods helped the two of you become best friends. "I'm lucky I met her."

There was a small silence after that, Kazuo seeming to be lost in thoughts.

"Did you have a friend like that back in France?" You question, wondering where his mind went.

"Uh," he chuckles awkwardly, "not really. I wasn't... well, very popular in my last school. People were just mean."

"Oh," you frown, before digging back into the dumpster. "Well... That sucks. Were they mean for a reason or are French people just rude?" You add to lighten up the mood.

"I don't... I don't know. There was a guy I trusted, and I told him a secret... The next day it was out and everyone hated me."

You straighten your back, getting your head out of the trashcan. You had found another cardboard. "Damn. I'm sorry, dude. That must have been really rough."

"I'll be okay now," he shrugs, taking the cardboard you were handing him. "Got a fresh start in America!"

"That's the spirit," you grin. "And even though we just met, and the situation isn't ideal, and it's probably hard to trust someone again," you pat his shoulder lightly, "your secrets are safe with me. Unless you're a serial killer, of course, in which case I'd probably tell Hopper. Nothing personal."

This came out a lot more serious than you thought it would, making you both giggle like two idiots.

"Thank you, (Y/n)."

"No worries. I'm not forcing you to tell me all your secrets either, of course. Just, feel free to talk to me if you need to. We're... friends, right?"

"Yeah! Yeah, totally."

"Cool," you say, eyes trailing off to the pile of cardboards you had found in the trash can. "Y'know what, I think I won't be able to find any more of this. Let's hope the others found more useful stuff."

___

The cardboards you fetched from the Byers' trash cans ended up taped to their shed walls', as well as other things such as tarps and sheets.

As Mike had said, the Mind Flayer couldn't spy through Will's eyes if he couldn't recognise the place he was in. The plan was thus to completely cover the walls of the shed in the garden, making the small cabin unrecognizable to Will's clouded mind. He would be tied up to a chair, and you even set up bright projectors to blind the Mind Flayer just in case. Then you weren't sure, they would probably stop sedating him and wait for him to wake up, and then the interrogation could start.
