I knew this Thanksgiving was going to be a disaster, just like every single one is. My dad forced me and Blake to come over to his house and act like a perfect family for the internet. He was really getting on my nerves.
At least I had Blake. Who is late? I was going to give him an earful when he got here if dad gets here before him.
Blake has been having some trouble taking over the company that dad gave him. So with him working all the time, I barely get to see him anymore.
"East!" Comes from behind me. Thank goodness. Blake comes up to me and pats my shoulder. "Good to see you bud." He greets me, I ruffle his hair playfully. "Yeah yeah sit down."
We sat down at the table and made small chat. Dads butlers bring me and Blake some wine and bread before my father gets here.
I look up from my cup and see Blake looking down at his plate anxiously. "Blake?" He looks up, "what's wrong?" He sighs. "I just- have you seen Daisy lately?" His question throws me off guard.
"I see her everyday... I work with her and she is Gracie's best friend." He nods. "Why? What's wrong?"
"It's just- she asked if I wanted to meet up for dinner one night and I couldn't- I told her we could reschedule, but she hasn't reached out to me and she hasn't answered my messages."
My eyes widened. "You guys were going to get dinner?"
He nods. He looks up at me nervously. "Are you mad?"
My shoulders fall. "Why would I be mad? It's Daisy and even though- I was the cause of your break up... doesn't mean you can't talk to her. That's not my choice and I will be happy with whatever you do."
I was always proud of my brother. He quickly became my best friend since he was born, the only person I could talk to anything about. And I had messed up when I told him to break up with Daisy. He was happy with her.
Maybe I was just jealous that I didn't have that.
I'm about to speak up again when the door opens and my father comes walking through. No smile, no acknowledgement of me.
"Blake. Good to have you here son." He pats his shoulder and sits down.
Yeah dad, good to see you too. I wanted to say but kept to myself. Maybe I would be able to go this entire dinner invisible if I don't speak up.
The butler brings out the dinner and we start eating. In silence. Occasionally dad will ask Blake questions about the business, but other than that, I'm not even here.
Not until I finish with my food at least.
"Easton. I assume that you are doing well." He doesn't look up from his plate to speak to me. "I am." I decided to reply back. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of not getting a reaction out of me.
