Chapter 8

Childe's pov

I returned to the table to see scara passed out on the booth, his feet were dangling over the arm rest and he had a peaceful look on his face. His hat had fallen on the floor and he looked very different with out it.. i sat down with my food and looked out the window. Thats when i realized something, 'Dottore is going to notice I'm gone.. he's going to find us..' i packed up my food in a to-go container and walked over to scara.

"Hey.. Scara, you need to get up.. we need to get out of sumeru" i whispered while gently shaking his shoulder.

"N-no.. let me sleep.." he mumbled before rolling over to face away from me.

"Fine you little crap.. then you leave me no choice" i picked him up bridal style and he started to freak out.

"Hey! Put me down!" He yelled.

"No. Go back to sleep, you said you were tired." I smirked.

"I am.. but that doesn't mean i want to be carried.." he muttered while trying to keep his eyes open.

"Well too bad" i chuckled.

"You're mean.."he mumbled before his eyes shut again.

"Yeah yeah.. sure i am.." i walked towards the door and felt his body go limp in my arms. 'At least he's asleep.. it'll be a peaceful trip' i thought to myself as i went to leave the building. 'Ah crap.. his hat' i looked over my shoulder at the hat still on the floor. 'Uhhh, how am i gonna carry that?' I pondered. Just then one of the cafe workers walked past me. "Oh, could i get a hand here?" I asked.

The waitress turned around, "yes? What can i do for you?" She said in a sweet tone.

"Would you mind handing me that hat? My hands are a little full at the moment" i chuckled gesturing to scara.

"Of course" she grabbed the hat. "How are you planning to carry it though?" She asked.

"Uhh.." my hands were full and so was my bag since i just put my leftovers in it. "I guess ill just wear it?" I said.

"Alrighty then" she said. I leaned over so she could put it on my head. "There you go, anything else you need?"

"No, that's all, thank you" i gave her a small smile and walked to the door. "Um.. actually could you open this for me?" I asked kind of embarrassed.

She giggled, "of course" she opened the door and waved goodbye to me as i walked down the main road.

'Alright.. lets head to mondstadt.. i doubt Dottore would look for us there' i thought to myself. We left the city and began on the main road to mondstadt. Scara was still asleep, but at least he was light. 'Heck, if my bag wasn't full i could probably fit him in there, he's definitely small enough.' I snickered a bit. "Shorty.." i mumbled.

After about an hour of walking i finally made it to the border of sumeru and liyue. Scara had been scrunching up his face for the past few minutes.. 'he's most likely having a nightmare or something like that, and with all that's happened in the past few days, Im not surprised' that's when i noticed his eyes had begun to water up. I didnt want to stop walking so i just pulled him closer to my chest to kind of feel like a hug. His face relaxed and he leaned his head against my chest. I smiled at him, he looked so peaceful.. i continued on the path to liyue city so we could get supplies. 'Maybe ill get one of those baby carriers for this guy' i laughed to myself. 'Hopefully i wont need it though, he should wake up by morning' I looked up at the sky and noticed that the moon was directly overhead.

"Midnight already..?" I mumbled. 'I should find a place to rest for the night.. the city is still a few hours away..' i spotted a small cluster of trees in the distance with an abandoned hilichurl camp by it. 'That'll do' i thought. I walked over to the camp and set scara down.. or at least, tried to. The little pest had a pretty strong grip on my shirt and he wasn't planning on letting go.. so i set my bag down and laid down next to him. He leaned his head onto me again, and i put an arm over him. Soon, i fell asleep.
