Karan's Pov:
The next day, I took the day off from work, just as I'd promised Preeta. But even at home, I couldn't entirely escape work. Sitting in the living room, laptop open, I reached for my second cup of coffee.
"Please, from now on, stop working from home. You're going to finish two days' worth of milk in one day," Preeta grumbled from the kitchen doorway, her eyes narrowing as she caught me sipping away.
I couldn't help but chuckle at her mix of a complaint and a taunt. "You're the one who insisted I stay home, so now deal with it," I said smugly, holding up the cup like a trophy and winking at her.
"Just stay here, okay? I'm in the next room, and don't even think about going anywhere!" she warned, her voice laced with frustration as she walked off to her room.
She had sent the surgery schedule to the hospital head in the morning and was now waiting anxiously for the afternoon to arrive.

Later that morning, as I paced the house, I realized I needed a file that Ankit was supposed to bring over.
"Please wait here. I'll quickly go down to grab the documents," I told the guards stationed at the door. They nodded, staying put as instructed.
Stepping into the elevator, I muttered to myself, "Of all the times, Ankit had to come now to deliver the file. If Preeta finds out I went downstairs, she'll definitely catch me and deliver one of her endless lectures."
When the elevator doors opened, I stepped out into the parking area, my phone in hand. I kept glancing at it nervously, checking the time repeatedly. Preeta's strict instructions were running through my head like an alarm.
"God, if she calls me right now, I'm done for." I sighed, scanning the area for Ankit while silently praying that this quick detour wouldn't blow up in my face.
Preeta's Pov:
"Where's Karan?" I demanded, glaring at the guards with fury blazing in my eyes.
"Ma'am, sir went downstairs about half an hour ago to collect some documents. He hasn't returned yet," one of the guards explained calmly.
"Then why didn't any of you go with him?" My voice rose, frustration dripping from every word.
"Ma'am, he instructed us not to," another guard admitted, his head lowered as if realizing his mistake too late.
"Oh God! Why does this man keep doing such reckless things?" I muttered, exasperated, and stormed toward the elevator. My mind raced with worry and anger as I jabbed the button, the doors opening almost too slowly for my growing impatience.
Reaching the parking area, I scanned around, my eyes darting between the cars until something caught my attention—a piece of paper stuck to his car window.
Frowning, I walked closer and pulled the note off.
"Hello... the rest of the conversation will happen directly with me at my address."
