Amidst the storms that tested us, I found my forever in her courage, my peace in her embrace, and my purpose in her love. She's not just my beginning, she's my everything.

Karan's Pov:

Preeta has been so engrossed in her hospital duties lately that I can't quite decide if I'm happy or sad about it.

Happy, because she's finally embracing her work again, leaving behind the trauma of the past. Watching her walk into that hospital in her doctor's coat, head held high, fills me with pride I can't even begin to put into words. Sad, because that same confidence and determination have left me standing in the shadows of her priorities. It feels like there's less of us in her world now.

It took her a month to process the aftermath of that night—the gunshot, the confrontation, the rapists. I still remember how she froze in terror as we drove back. Her trembling hands clutched my arm tightly, her nails digging into my skin, but she didn't say a word. The silence in that car was deafening. Even when I tried to soothe her, telling her it was all over, her blank, tear-streaked face screamed otherwise.

Now, here she is, back to saving lives, throwing herself into her work, as if that's the only way to outrun her demons. And me? I'm left sitting in my office, reliving the way she kissed me goodbye this morning—hurried, distracted, as if the day barely had any room for us.

"Karan, you know you have to get ready for the event at the hospital, and you're going there directly!"

Ankit barged into my cabin without the decency to knock, yanking me from my thoughts. Damn, how did that event slip my mind? Damn. The event. How did it slip my mind?

"Yeah, fine," I said, massaging my temples. "Get my clothes ready—and make sure they match Preeta's outfit in some way. Look into the details."

"Anything else?"

"Yeah, inform the driver. I'll be heading there straight."

"Already done," he said, his smug tone making me glance up at him.

Efficient for once.

"Then leave!"

"Cranky, two-faced motherfucker," Ankit muttered under his breath, not bothering to lower his voice.

I smirked, the corner of my lips twitching involuntarily. "Get your ass out of my office."

He shot me a dramatic glare before walking out, and I couldn't help but chuckle. His antics had a way of pulling me out of my brooding.

Priyanka was still in Dubai for a major client meeting and hadn't allowed Ankit to join her. Now, he's stuck here, venting his frustration on me, as if that's going to make me cut him some slack. Not that I don't care—of course, I care. But the ongoing project is critical, and I need him here more than ever. Work isn't a vacation package, and I'm not running a couple's retreat.

Still, his behavior managed to lighten my mood, even if just a little. Maybe this hospital event wouldn't be so bad after all—at least I'd get to see Preeta. Even if only for a moment, catching her smile, the glint in her eyes when she spots me in the crowd, will make it all worth it.
