"Are you feeling okay?"

Clover sat lifeless as Luke took photos of her bruises. Clover was now on the floor with Luke behind her, examining her bruise on her back.

"Yeah." Clover nodded.

Luke flickered his eyes up to his little sister's face in the mirror. Her eyes stared into the dark wood cabinet and there were bags under her eyes.

"I think that's a lie, Clover."

Clover's eyes flickered up to Luke's eyes in the mirror reflection. She stared at him for a moment before looking back at the floor. "I'm just tired."

Luke decided not to pry anymore and silently asked, "Clover, can you spin around so I can take photos of your stomach and legs."

Clover wasn't embarrassed that she was sitting in her shorts and a bralette in front of her brother. He wasn't some random guy, he was her older brother. She was only embarrassed that she broke down.

"Yeah," She got up and sat in front of Luke. Once again, she looked back down at the floor while Luke took a few more photos. Luke was in pain just by looking at the bruises, which caused a burning anger inside of him.

"Don't worry, Lucky," Luke mumbled, looking up at his little sister and seeing a sparkle in her eye. "I won't let him get away with this."

The next morning, Clover woke up to Luke prancing into the bedroom— chirping about Sierra's return home.

Clover got up immediately and looked at her phone, seeing multiple texts from Gavin— but this time, she ignored them completely.

Clover changed into mom jeans and a tank top she'd bought a month ago and walked into the living room where Luke stood with Griffin.

"Hello backyard princess," Griffin chuckled.

Luke raised his eyebrow at the nickname but didn't say anything. Clover grinned and rested her body against the wall. "Good morning, stalker. What are you doing here?"

"Luke's my buddy!" Griffin said as if it were obvious, "I'm getting some money for mowing your kingdom today."

Clover snorted, "My kingdom?"

"The backyard, obviously!"

Luke led Griffin and Clover to the backyard and showed Griffin where the lawn mower was, and he got straight to work. Luke leaned against his sliding door and Clover watched with her arms crossed.

"I didn't know you guys knew each other." Luke commented.

"His brother is who I met first. Then I met him, they're nice." Clover told Luke.

"Oh," Luke hummed. "I see."

Luke turned around and went back inside after watching Griffin for a moment, making sure he was doing it right, and started the coffee in the coffee machine.

Clover waved goodbye to Griffin and followed Luke inside. After a moment of silence, she spoke. "Luke?"

"Yep?"

"Does mom know about . . . you know, last night?"

Luke's eyes flicker up and down at Clover and are sucked in a breath. After a moment, he shook his head. "No. Not that I know of. I haven't told her."

Clover pursed her lips. "I have to tell her somehow, right?"

"You're right." He paused, "You're going to have to explain to her why you're never speaking to the bastard again."

Clover flinched slightly. "I have to speak to him sometime."

"Anytime you're going to speak to him is when you, me, Sierra, the guys, and mom go back home." Luke said.

Clover shot her eyebrows up. "You're coming home with us?"

"Of course I am." Luke smiled slightly. "You're not going through this alone, Clo."

Clover wanted to cry at the moment. As much as she regretted last night, and wished it had gone a different way, she was happy she wasn't alone anymore. But she still had a put in her stomach.

As much as she could tell herself it wasn't true— Clover still felt like she was nothing without him.

It was now nearly seven pm, and Clover was sitting in the backyard with Gavin and Blake who were telling Clover how they met Luke.

"And then, this big blonde man came outside and saw me struggling with the hose and offered it help. It's boring, but it's how we met!" Blake laughed.

"Very exciting," Clover laughed as she took a sip of her water.

"Correct." Blake sang, patting Griffin's shoulder. "Anywho, I should go back inside."

Blake got up and started toward the fence, "Bye bye, Clover!" and he hopped it. Clover waved back at him and turned to Griffin.

"You leaving too, backyard prince?"

Griffin's cheek flushed and he laughed. "I have to go somewhere anyway."

"You do?" Clover hummed as he stood. "Where you goin', hotshot?"

Griffin's tongue swiped over his bottom lip and he smirked. "You think I'm a hotshot?"

Clover's cheeks flushed and she immediately shook her head, "I-I didn't mean it like that, I meant—"

"Calm down," Griffin ruffled his hand on Clover's head and chuckled. "I'm just messing with you, Clo."

Clover covered her face in embarrassment as Griffin ruffled her hair. "Not funny." She huffed.

"Aw," Griffin hummed, "I'm going to a friend's hangout. We're gonna play uno until our heart's desire. If you weren't leaving so soon, I'd invite you."

"I don't know if I'm leaving soon," Cover said back.

"What—"

"Clover, come on!" Luke shouted from the house, "We've got to pick up Sierra!"

Clover got up and began to walk to the house. Before she went inside, she turned around and did a saluting gesture to Griffin. "See you, backyard king."
