District 12 was new to Cato and Cato was new to District 12. My mother seemed to like Cato, Prim looked afraid of him and Gale looked threatened by him. I join Cato in our room. He's sitting on the edge of the bed and I flop on to the bed.
"Did President Snow just let you come here or was there a catch?" I ask.
"You heard, didn't you?" Cato says.
"Yeah," I say.
"Do you want to?"
"I don't know, we have a few years."
"Would eight years be good?"
"Yeah, she'll have more of a chance if she's eighteen."
"Yeah," he says.
I can feel the awkwardness between us. So I sit up and kiss him and all the awkwardness suddenly disappears. I thought that Careers were heartless, well, before I met Cato.

I tie Prim's hair into two braids, I missed spending time with her.
"I'm so happy you're back," she says.
"I'm so happy to see you again, Little duck," I say.
"You really love the boy from Two, don't you?"
"I do love Cato," I say.
"Since when?" she asks.
"Since he decided to help me in training."
