the great escape
LEOPOLD & LOEB JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER
OCTOBER 22ND, 2018
RIVERDALE
''As eerie as this place is, I'm glad to see someone finally recognises the treatment I deserve,'' Mia whispered to Veronica and Reggie as one of the valet opened and closed the car door for her.
Her new chocolate locks were twisted into an elegant up-do, contrasting the Lodge girl's bright blonde tresses. They both wore matching diamond necklaces, weighing uncomfortably heavy against their delicate collarbones. The trio was a sight to behold, glued into place with Reggie's smart black button-down shirt.
A burly security guard blocked them from taking a step further, his expression laughable and menacing at the same time. ''Password?'' He asked, clearly unimpressed by their lavish flamboyance.
''Contra.''
''Nice try.''
The three of them side-eyed each other from behind their black-out sunglasses, which had designer logos that shimmered in the autumn sunlight.
''That's what it was last time,'' Veronica clicked her tongue, folding her silk-gloved hands.
''It changes every time. What are your names?''
''What's my name?'' She laughed, as if he had just told her the funniest joke. ''What's your name? I'm Monica Norton. Perhaps you're familiar with Warden Norton?''
''Oh, of course.''
''Good. We understand each other, then,'' she smiled haughtily. ''My fiance and cousin and I are here for the show. We want to see blood. The fighters' blood. Yours. I don't really care — as long as its red. So, if you need to call Warden Norton to get us cleared—''
''Ah, that won't be necessary, miss,'' he said at once, stepping aside submissively. ''Sorry for the delay.''
''I'm not sure your sorry cuts it,'' Mia frowned, clutching her bag to her chest. ''I'd start looking for a new job if I were you. Good luck.''
