it takes a long time to grow young

SOUTHSIDE RIVERDALE
Mia didn't wake up feeling too different. Sure, she was a year older, but its not like it was that big of a deal. She hadn't felt young in a while, and each coming year was a mere reminder of the childhood she'd been forced to give up way too early.
The blonde wasn't expecting much, groggily entering the kitchen just like any other day. Yet unlike every other day, an elaborately-wrapped gift box, a smaller gift bag, and a colossal boquet of pink peonies took centre of the dining table. She approached the scene warily, looking around for any sight of her brother, father, or even Nate.
She abandoned the coffee she was preparing to make, an already steaming cup hidden behind the presents. She took a sip, before seating herself at the table. First was the flashy box, adorned with ribbons and bows. Mia's eyes practically fell out of her head as she lifted off the lid, unveiling a monochrome chinchilla fur coat. It was perfect. Soft to the touch, and beautiful to look at, much like the girl herself. It was addressed to ❛daughter❜, and she only had one father. She could only presume how FP had managed to cough up the money to get a coat like this, but she couldn't bring herself to care. Mia immediately put it on over her pyjamas, already planning an outfit to wear with it to school that day.
Next was the gift bag, ❛Mia❜ written on the name tag with her brother's signature scrawly handwriting. Inside was an ultrasound picture, dated from 2001, showing two baby blobs in their mother's womb. On the back written was: ❛To my sister, who's always been the one with a fat head since birth❜. She burst into laughter at that, reaching in to produce a VHS tape labelled ❛Partner-in-Crime Chronicles❜. Seconds later and the tape was inserted into the player, recording hundreds of memories from Mia and Jughead's childhood.
Lastly were the flowers. Mia stood to smell their scent, despite the entire trailer now clouded with the sweet aroma. A small card rested between the stalks of two of the flowers, once again silver and addressed with a calligraphic ❛Mia❜. A longer message was printed on the back, reading: ❛Please be ready for seven o'clock tonight. You know the place. Love, Nate.❜
