[3rd person pov]

It was the middle of summer and a heat wave recently hit.

"I don't want to spend all summer inside!" Skeppy whined to his roommate.

"But it's so hot out! What could we even do?" Bad retorted, although he did want to go out too. They took a second to think, before both thought of an idea, and they proceeded to shout it in unison.

"Pool!"
"Hike!"

They both paused, looking at eachother.

Bad didn't like public pools because of the people, and the lakes and oceans nearby weren't any less crowded.

Skeppy on the other hand didn't like hiking, unlike bad. He liked nature, sure, but long walks just weren't his forte. Especially with the heat.

Suddenly, bad piped up.

"Oh! I still have a canoe in the garage! What if we go canoeing?"

It was perfect. No crowds, no walking, and it's outside. Skeppy happily agreed and they went to change into swimsuits. Both boys threw on their normal swim trunks and a t-shirt.

Bad grabbed a spare bag and threw in towels, mosquito bracelets, water bottles, and sunscreen.

He walked out of their house and over to their garage, which skeppy had already opened and started rummaging through. Bad set his bag in their car and helped skeppy look, and they eventually found it.

It was one of those cheap plastic ones you get for 50 bucks at Walmart or sportsman's warehouse or something, and was bright red with a large hole in the middle, 2 paddles resting on top, and the side reading '2 seater canoe'. They dusted it off and strapped it on top of their car with bungee chords, and headed off to the river.

//time skip//

They finally got to the park next to the river and hopped out. Skeppy went to grab the canoe, but was stopped by bad.

"We gotta put sunscreen on first you muffinhead!" Bad exclaimed, pulling a can of spray sunscreen.

Skeppy groaned. Sunscreen was always so cold! He tried to resist but he just couldn't bring himself to say no to bad.

Bad coated skeppy's arms and legs in the spray, then made him hold out his hands. Bad sprayed it into Skeppy's palms and he rubbed it on his cheeks and nose. Bad had skeppy do the same to him before pulling out the mosquito repellent brace, putting one on himself and handing the other to skeppy.

The 2 boys pulled the canoe off the roof of their car, and bad took it and the paddles down to the water while skeppy walked over to a small shack nearby to rent them life vests.

Skeppy put his on at the shack before running down to meet up with bad. The older man quickly fastened it on, and handed skeppy one of the paddles.

"Okay, so I looked at the instructions for this model on the bottom and it says the 2 people need to sit in the hole, one behind the other with their legs wrapped around them."

"So kind of like the tube rides at water parks?" Skeppy questioned, just making sure he understood.

"Exactly like that!"

Ok, easy enough. They decided bad would sit in the back and skeppy in the front. Bad slowly lowered himself into the shaky piece of plastic, making sure not to tip it into the water.

Once he got situated, skeppy stepped into the canoe right in front of bad, realizing how close they were. He could feel bad's legs on either side of him, and even though they weren't hugging like they would be on something like a motorcycle, it was still close enough for skeppy's heart to skip a beat.

They confirmed they were both ready and bad gently pushed them out onto the deeper water with his ore, and they began rowing.

They were planning on taking a route that was about 3 hours and would lead them to another park area. From there, they'd take a 25 minute buggy ride back to their car.

Bad's taken this route before, so he has a basic idea of what he's doing.

For the next 2 hours, everything went well. Talking, laughing, mildly panicking at every turn an rock. But they managed.

They came up on a split path. They didn't quite know which one to go through, as they had forgotten the map. Bad said he remembered taking the left path the last time he was there, so skeppy trusted his judgement.

For the first few minutes it seemed normal. Then they realized they were heading straight for a drop. It was at about a 200° angle, so not a straight drop, but still fairly steep.

Both boys frantically tried to get away, but the river flowed in the direction of the drop, and they just weren't strong enough to fight against the heavy current.

They both knew they were going down. As much as they tried to get away, they came up to the edge, facing sideways.

Bad quickly wrapped his arms around skeppy, clutching onto him for dear life as they teetered over the edge.

After a few seconds, they dropped. Both of them screamed in terror as they flew down the unholy water slide, before they hit a rock, flipping them out of their boat.

Bad still had a pretty good grip on skeppy, and they began tumbling down, still screaming, holding onto each other. The boat rolled down behind them.

They rolled all they way down to the shallow pond at the bottom, with the boat landing on shore and bad landing right on top of his roommate. He quickly pushed himself up, allowing skeppy to prop himself on his elbows and get his head out of water.

They stayed still for a second, waiting for the adrenaline to wear off. They recovered from the shock after a minute, only then realizing the position they were in.

Bad was effectively sitting on skeppy's lap, their faces only an inch apart. Skeppy was the first to realize, and he flushed a bright red.

Bad snapped back to reality, looking at skeppy and wondering why he was blushing.

Before he could figure it out, one of their ores came tumbling down and hit bad, causing him to fall forward, slamming into his friend.

Skeppy hit the ground, followed by bad's face mashing directly into his. The water was shallow enough he still had plenty of room to breath.

He still had a hard time getting air in though. Not because of the water, but because bad's lips directly lined up with his when they fell.

Sure, bad falling on him, their noses and teeth slamming together, and skeppy's head hitting the rocky floor hurt, but he found himself too distracted to notice.

Bad quickly realized what happened and swiftly pulled back, bright red.

"Oh my goodness skeppy I'm so sorry! I- uhm-"
Bad had trouble getting the words out of his mouth and the hearts out of his eyes.

Skeppy, seeing how flustered his best friend was, realized he felt the same as him. He didn't have to be scared to make a move anymore. So he just sat up and smiled, leaning in, and gently pressing his lips on the corner of bad's mouth.

"I.. uh.." bad lost his train of thought completely, all the words he had in his mind were replaced by thoughts of his pretty roommate.

"How about we talk about this later? We need to get back to shore before dark." Skeppy stated, lightly shuffling out from under bad and standing up.

"Oh! Yep! Ok!" Bad stuttered, scrambling to get himself up and follow skeppy. What a happy little accident.
