Ch3

Bella and Luke walked into headquarters where they found everyone scrambling around. Bella stopped a co-worker.

 "What's going on?" She asked.

"We're looking for your sister." She said as Chief Newton walked over.

"White, we heard about the abduction. How are you?"

 "I'm a little unnerved, worried."

"So are we. Come, follow me. I'll run you down on what we've got so far." They began walking to his office.

"Oh my brothers fine, thank you." Luke said dryly, walking behind them. "It's not like he got shot, or could've died or anything."

The chief patted his back as they entered his office.

"So?" She asked. "What did you get so far?"

"Well, we haven't gotten much. We have surveillance from the street lights to see if we could get a face. Tech saw a shadow and a figure, but it's too dark. Carter is working on lighting things up for us, enhancing the image. In the mean time we've got a team sweeping your house for any prints or DNA."

"And what if they don't find anything?"

"You can't think like that." Luke said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "We will find something."

 She sits.

"We've alerted the other sectors, they're using their alliances to see if anyone's seen her. We've sent her picture out to everyone." Chief assured.

She rubbed her eyes. "So is this related to us? To the CIA?"

 "We don't know."

She stood and began pacing the room. "I just can't believe that it's not, you know? I mean, it was my house. This person attempted murder and abducted an innocent citizen...if it wasn't intelligence related everything would be fine, but it's not."

"Well, we won't know until we get more information. In the meantime, I have a mission for you. I can always send someone else if you're not up to it, but I'd like my best people on this mission."

"Of course." Bella said with a slight nod. There was nothing she could do at the moment for her sister, and she desperately needed a distraction.

"I'll go with her." Luke said.

"Shouldn't you be on your honeymoon Lenox?"

"I um...I broke up with her. I decided that B-" Bella elbowed him in the chest to stop him. "Oof!!"

"What?" Chief asked, an eyebrow raised in suspicion.

"Blondes. I decided that I'm not a big fan of blondes." He choked out, rubbing his chest.

"Ah," the chief nodded and patted his shoulder. "Well you'll find someone. Briefing room in 10 minutes."

"Yes sir." Bella and Luke walked out and turned the corner. Bella pushed him into a corner and began slapping his head. "Are you nuts?!"

 "Ow, ow!! Stop!"

"Luke, no one can find out about this. I mean Nick knows but he's smart enough to keep his mouth shut. Coworkers aren't allowed to date. If he found out we wouldn't be able to work together."

He let out a heavy sigh and slicked back his dark hair. "Alright, alright. Jeez, did you have to mess up my hair?"

A smirk played on her lips. "It looks better without gel anyway."

"Yeah, wish the chief thought that. Come on, let's go to the briefing room."

 In the briefing room

"Several days ago, our office was attacked. Thanks to Luke, he managed to swipe a few of our possessions from the vault before they could, however they did manage to grab an artifact very valuable to us." The Chief clicked a button on the computer and a picture appeared on the screen. "Alex Leeway. KGB agent. At the moment he's stationed in India."

"What did he take?" Bella asked making a mental note of the man's face.

"A Diamond." The picture appeared on the screens.

"A diamond?" Luke questioned, his brow raised in confusion. "All due respect sir...it's a diamond, we can afford a thousand more. What's so special about this one?"

"It's not a normal jewel. The jewel holds enough power, when applied to a heat source, can cause massive destruction." Another picture appears. "In 1968, a man named Jack Coonan created this machine. A laser in short. He placed the diamond in this slot right here. In a matter of seconds the power from the jewel transferred to the laser and destroyed a whole city in Guam. The laser was destroyed but the jewel remained in our vault. Until now."

"Well how is he going to use it if there's no laser?" Bella asked.

Another picture appeared. A solar image of a laser in India, much larger than the first, sitting in a volcano.

Bella and Luke both sat up. "Whoa." They said in unison.

"I need you two to destroy it, bring back our diamond as well as Leeway...if you don't, India may not survive...and after India, it could be us...no pressure."

 Bella nodded slightly. "When?"

"Your flight is tomorrow at 4 am. You'll be traveling to the island just off the coast of India, there's a volcano. That's where he's hiding the laser."

"Great," Luke began. "Fire." He rubbed his head. "Should be interesting."

"And Ms. White? Don't worry about Blakely, we're on it."

"Thank you sir, but it's my job to worry."

"Of course. You two get out of here, get some rest before your flight."

"Thank you sir." Luke stood up and headed for the door, holding it open for her.

"Sir? You'll let me know if you find anything, right?" Bella asked, her face covered with worry.

"Of course." He nodded for genuine affect.

"Thanks." She walked out with Luke and they headed for the elevator. When the doors shut she rested her head on his shoulder. "This missions going to be a doozy."

He let out a soft chuckle and kissed her head. "Yeah. But we're a great team. We'll get her done."
