Ch8
It could have been hours, days, even weeks that had passed by when Bella woke. She awoke in a white tiled room. Surely she wasn't in the hospital, not if she really was captured by Leeway, and she was pretty positive she wasn't dreaming.
"Good!" A voice called as the door slammed shut, making her flinch away. "You're awake!"
Her voice coarse and quiet, "Where am I?"
"Well, thanks to you I had to relocate. Fortunately I was already thinking about moving so I had all the preparations made sooner."
"Leeway?" She asked.
"Hiya princess."
She made an attempt to roll her eyes, but the simple movement made her head throb.
"You've been in a coma for quite a while. A week and a half almost. I thought I was gonna have to start killing doctors."
"...Blakely and my partner?"
"Alive...barely." He grinned. "Of course there wasn't much I could do to them with you sleeping the days away. I had to put my entire operation on hold."
"I'm sorry?"
"You should be! Because now I'm angry! I've been patient enough! Now I'm done!! Now you will power the lasers!"
She let out a sigh and sat up in the bed then rubbed her eyes that ached. "...what in earth are you talking about?" She asked. "You keep saying that I'm this big power house, and that I'm going to make your stupid lasers work, but I don't know how or much less what the heck is going on! So before I do anything please feel free to shed some light on me!"
"You were created to destroy the world."
"Highly unlikely."
"It's true." He placed his hands behind his back and straightened up. "Long ago, a man named Joseph Alhabi-"
"Alhabi?" She questioned. On a previous mission earlier that year she went on a mission to recollect an artifact that had been engineered by Alhabi in 1496.
"Are you familiar with his work?" He asked.
"Um...barely."
"Well, he was a genius, engineered many of the things that we use today, such as clocks. He was also a psychic."
"If you're trying to convince me, it's not working." She interrupted.
"Will you let me finish?! Woman!!"
She folded her arms across her chest.
He sighed reluctantly.
"Anyway. He predicted many things. When he was 18, he predicted the exact moment a comet would enter the earth's atmosphere. He was right. People thought he was a witch, or a warlock, and had him hung, but before he was killed he put his drawings and writings all in a book. Centuries later his book was discovered in his tomb. In the book it gave very detailed descriptions on his work, how we created the ultimate laser for the future. But! It had two power sources. A diamond, and a girl. The diamond, he drew a map to locate it. The girl, he drew a
picture of. She would be born on the 18th of June, her hearts diameter would be 10 centimeters. Her feet size would be 7 1/2. Her blood type would be O negative."
Bella stared at him, none of this was making sense. How could a man so long ago predict all these facts about her? She wasn't even sure what her own blood type was, much less the size of her heart. How would he? And how could he draw someone that looked exactly like her? "He got lucky." She spat stubbornly.
"Perhaps, or perhaps he was what they thought...a psychic."
"Well this is all fine and dandy, but still. How am I supposed to power a laser?"
Leeway shrugged. "You touch it."
"...That's it? I just touch it?"
"Well, the diamond that sits in the engine."
"And why do you need me to 'power' it? You have the diamond and it'll work fine without me."
He smirked and stepped closer. "Because I'm not looking to destroy a single city...I want to destroy the world. And you're going to help me, whether you like it or not. Because the lives of the people you love will be spared if you cooperate. Understand."
She looked away, looking at the side table. On it sat a needle with the sequence C17H19NO3, the chemical formula for morphine. She looked at him. "Understood."
"Good. I'll come back later, in 3 hours we start my domination." He turned for the door.
Bella swiped the needle from the table and hid it next to her thigh. "Wait!"
He turned to her.
"If I could...I'd like to see Blakely and Luke."
"No. Absolutely not. The last time I let you visit someone you attempted murder."
"I just want to see them, I'm sure they're worried about me."
"Oh don't worry, I'll let them know you're alive."
She let out a sigh. "Could you at least get me a second pillow?"
He sighed reluctantly and grabbed a pillow from the couch and forced it behind her. He fluffed them around. "Alright, now no more favors." He was about to walk away when Bella's hand came around and stabbed the needle into his neck as she injected the morphine.
Leeway let out a shriek of pain as he jerked it away and back handed her as he backed up. "What have you done?!"
"Don't worry. It's just morphine." She said as she stood from the bed. He fell to his knees as she unhooked herself from the IV tubes. He fell forward, unconscious. She took the cuffs from his jacket pocket and cuffed him to the leg of the bed. She grabbed his key ring and opened the door, poking her head out. The halls were wider and longer in this lair, but were still all white and covered in windows. Luckily no one was in the hall. She slipped out and looked at the keys. She had to look for the key to his office. That's where her things would be, her clothes. His office wouldn't be too far from her room as he would want to be close to his power house. She would try the next door. She rushed to the door, found the key and inserted it. The key went in effortlessly and the door opened. The room was dark and had a single window that had a view of the next room. She entered and flipped the switch on.
"Bingo." She locked the door to Leeway's office behind her and started scrambling through the drawers and closets. In the bottom drawer of his desk she found her clothes and her back pack. She emptied out the contents to see what she still had. Bullets, but no gun. Rope, a flashlight, a lipstick laser, and a diamond.
"What's this doing in here?" She wondered as she picked it up. It was hot to the touch and she dropped it immediately. "Ouch!"
She thought back to one of her last memories. Luke had the diamond and placed it in his bag. Of course she was practically unconscious when it had happened so maybe, somehow he had gotten a hold of a second diamond that was "normal". She grabbed her clothes and quickly changed into them. Tying the belt around her waist, she looked up out of the window and saw that it looked out to a room that looked to be a spacious bowl. In the middle of the bowl she saw Luke being dragged into the room and up to a table by a laser.
He was fighting back, twisting and turning, trying to yank himself free. She saw a man strap him onto the table, another man stood behind the laser.
Bella pounded on the window, which made no sound in the bowl. "Luke!!" She shouted, but they couldn't hear her. She took out the laser lipstick from her bag and began cutting out a wide square section. When the piece was cut, she grabbed it before it could fall out and placed it in the office. She grabbed the keys off the desk and went to a cabinet. Inside were guns, mostly sniper rifles. She grabbed one rifle and two handguns, stuffing the handhelds in her bag. She wrapped the strap of the rifle around her shoulder then stuffed a bunch of ammunition into her bag. She then took out the rope and tied it to the leg of the couch and let the rope fall out the window. She let out a short breath to prepare herself before she climbed down the rope.
