Ch11
Leeway let out a groan as his eyes fluttered open. "What happened?" He asked himself as he went to rub his eyes, but his hands were cuffed behind his back.
"Good morning sleeping beauty." Luke said as he bent down. " I'm glad you woke up, makes getting you out of here a lot easier. Instead of me having to carry you on my shoulders while this place goes to ashes."
"This isn't over."
"I believe it is...hey Bella!! How's it going over there?!"
"Almost ready. I just need a few more minutes. Hey, see if he has a phone."
"'Scuse me." He said as he dug around in his pockets. He took a cell phone out of his jacket pocket. "He's got one! A really nice one too! Tell me, how does a criminal like you get an iPhone 5?"
Leeway rolled his eyes.
"Call dispatch! Get us out of here!"
"Got it!"
"So how is this going to work?" Blakely asked as Bella's fingers raced across the computer keys. "Well...you'll see."
Blakely gave her a look that told her she was hurt by the secretiveness. Bella noticed but only gave her a soft smile.
She dug into Luke's bag and took out the diamond.
"What are you doing?" Luke asked as he stood by Blakely.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing...I think."
"That never sounds good." Blakely teased.
"Luke, get behind the laser and push the green button." Bella ordered as she placed the diamond in the engine, holding her hand against it, ignoring the burning sensation rippling through her.
Luke stood behind the controls and did as she said. A loud hum filled the room.
"It's on." He said.
Bella slowly eased her hand off of the diamond. The laser still worked but the hum was low, like it would shut off at any second. She sighed and shook her head in disbelief before she put her hand back on it. The hum grew louder again.
"That's really weird," Luke began, "but also really cool."
"Take aim and fire at the other lasers."
"Alright, Blakely stay behind me."
"Got it."
Luke took aim at the laser in front of him, the one that would have killed him if it weren't for Bella. He pressed the buttons on the handles, two lasers shot out toward the hunk of metal across the room. In a matter of seconds it had been destroyed.
"This is kind of fun!" Luke exclaimed as he moved on to the next target.
50 lasers went down. All that was left was the laser at hand, and the giant one in the middle of the building.
"Now how do we get rid of this one?" Blakely asked as Bella shook her hand out.
"Well, we have two options. We can shoot at a mirror to make it reflect on
itself, but that requires me standing by it. Or, we get out a sledgehammer from that closet and get to work."
"Sledgehammer it is." They agreed as the girls went to the closet. Luke stayed with Leeway.
The disassembling of the laser took 15 minutes, and put them into a heavy sweat.
"God, that was awful." Luke whined as he dropped his hammer.
