the atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable. neither of them ventured to speak anything for a few seconds. it looked like mona was trying to form the correct words in her head before she could utter anything.
"so," she started, "i guess you already know why i called you here."
y/n tentatively nodded, "yes."
mona deeply exhaled before continuing, "i don't know how to start this... i'm sorry for everything i said that day, y/n. i guess my emotions took over me, and i said things i shouldn't have... i know i'm the worst roommate and friend ever, so i'm not going to ask for forgiveness, but i'm sorry. really."
she stopped momentarily before speaking up again, "i was just taken aback that day, when i found out scaramouche used to date you. he never mentioned anything about that to me, ever. so, i guess the moment i found out he had a history with you, i got... envious?"
"it's pretty obvious, but yeah. i like him, y/n."
y/n vigilantly listened, trying to take in every bit of her words. upon hearing the last line, however, she couldn't help but feel heavy in her chest. she knew she had no right to, but she did.
there were some days where she'd just wish the world ended, so she wouldn't have to worry about her problems constantly spiralling around her life. if only that was possible.
"but obviously, i'm such a fool for thinking he'd ever see me as something else, or even move on." she chuckled dryly, "he still likes you, y/n."
y/n halted, unable to process those simple words that just came out of mona's mouth.
"but, that's not the point. i'm just here to apologise, i'm sorry."
looking over to her, y/n noticed the visible guilt written on mona's face.
"it's fine... just don't do something like that again and maybe... try to control your emotions next time." y/n's words caused mona to look at her dumbfounded.
"wait, what? did you just forgive me? i was honestly prepared to get a shouting from you."
"huh? i'm not you." y/n was meaning to say this as a joke but she quickly covered her mouth the moment she realised how rude she sounded.
mona lightly chuckled, "no no, you're right."
"please give me time to get adjusted though. i'm sorry in advance if i don't speak a lot to you."
