“I told you it wouldn’t help, he already knows everything,” Roger stated, shaking his wet cloak.

Lynn leaned against the door, watching him carefully. “You mean Tasdar?”

“You know anyone else who might kill us for hiding Ravenna and Agnese?” he sneered. “Of course it’s Tasdar!”

“Why do you think he knows?”

The man rushed into the kitchen, his fists clenched tightly. Lynn followed and stopped in the doorway.

“When I was in the Dark Kingdom a few days ago, he spoke in hints,” Roger said bitterly. “Today it happened again.”

“What exactly did he say?”

“He asked me about the Crystal Palace just after I was there.”

“Wait, what were you doing in the Crystal Palace?” Lynn looked at him suspiciously.

“Don’t you know? I tried to save our lives. As long as Neptune doesn’t tell Ravenna the truth, we’ll be safe, but we’re not sure if he will, so I had to convince him not to.”

“It’s not about Neptune,” the woman narrowed her eyes. “He may or may not tell her the truth, but if Ravenna reveals her powers, there’s nothing else we can do.”

“Tasdar said Ravenna’s powers may never wake up if she lives a peaceful life. All we can do is protect her from the world of Specials.”

“You think it would be that easy? Ravenna is already starting to see things that only the Specials can, like the tunnel to the Crystal Palace. I felt her magical energy there today. You know what that means? Her energy is still weak and we can’t feel it from a long distance yet, but it’s a sign she could get stronger at any moment. It’s too late to shield her from the other world. Are you going to hide her from Tasdar all the time?”

“Aren’t you worried he’s going to kill us?”

“He’s only going to kill me because I took Ravenna from Arella and you kept quiet because I told you to.”

“You told me to! Because that’s the best excuse!” Roger spat furiously. “You know what? You’re right, it’s your fault we’re in this mess in the first place. If you hadn’t agreed to take Ravenna, none of this would have happened. Besides, you know I serve Tasdar. Why did you have to drag me into this?”

“If you’re so afraid, why didn’t you run away the day I brought Ravenna here?” Lynn retorted. “Listen, Tasdar isn’t planning to kill us, because he would have done it a long time ago unless you’re wrong and he doesn’t really know anything.”

“He said earlier he can see a lot of things from the distance, which means he has the power to do so. Mellburn also mentioned it once. It can’t be a coincidence.”

“That’s not what you’re afraid of,” Lynn said through her teeth. “If Mellburn is right and Tasdar can see us from afar, you’re afraid he’ll find out about your plans and kill you, not because you have his daughter.”

She gasped as her angry husband grabbed her arm roughly.

“You don’t know anything,” he said. “You’d probably do the same if you were me. You don’t know what it’s like to kneel before Tasdar when he saves you, and you should be grateful to him, but at the same time, you hate him more than anything in the world.”

Roger slowly released her hand and closed the door before leaving. Lynn stared in amazement at his dark figure disappearing. As much as she loved and understood Roger, there was nothing she could do to help him now. All she knew was that it would be best to leave him alone for a few hours, so she decided to visit the city to do some shopping.
