“I can’t believe it,” Lynn worriedly paced from corner to corner. “Why did they do that? Did they not think about the dangers Ravenna would face?”
“She was destined to know, Neptune just did what he had to.”
“They separated her from Neptune just because he told her the truth? But I was hoping they could go on a journey together. If something happens to her...”
“You rely so much on Neptune?” Gordon’s lips curled into a soft smile. “You think he’s strong enough to defend Ravenna, even though Tasdar’s servant easily defeated him?”
“Yes, there’s a lot you don’t know about Neptune.”
“Could you be more specific?” Gordon’s shoulders tensed as he looked carefully at the woman.
“Neptune is a lot stronger than we all think, he just doesn’t know it yet, but now that he’s gone, there’s no way Ravenna will achieve her goals.”
“Don’t worry, Lynn, everything is under control, we’ll figure something out.”
“But we don’t even know where the gate to the World of Absence is. How would Ravenna know?”
“Neptune found the map that Phoebus left him. Maybe he’ll find out.”
The woman furrowed her brow. “What map are you talking about?”
“The one he left in the palace. Phoebus was the only one who could tell where the gate was, but with the outbreak of the war, all his memory was wiped. Phoebus can’t help us now...”
“Then the only hope remained—Neptune and Ravenna.”
“Exactly,” Gordon clenched his fists. “If Arella doesn’t get out, I’ll... kill Tasdar!”
Lynn looked at him a little surprised. “I know how you feel, but it’s impossible to kill Tasdar, you know that yourself.”
They sat in silence for a while. Gordon looked pensive, his emerald eyes fixed on the window, one arm bent at the elbow and his chin resting on his palm. Lynn observed him anxiously. She knew he was just as worried as she was.
“Haven’t you ever tried to figure out where that gate might be?” she asked. “After all, you’re a sage, the gods can tell you easily, can’t they?”
“They can, but it doesn’t mean they will, we have to find it out ourselves,” he explained, rising from his chair. “But the biggest problem right now is Tasdar. We need to figure out how to get Neptune out of his clutches.”
“And what do you suggest to do?”
Gordon slowly crossed the room and stood at the window for a while. The woman had no desire to interrupt his thoughts and waited patiently for him to answer. The white curtain moved gently in the slight breeze, but the man didn’t even stir. His face looked troubled, eyes wandered somewhere far beyond the horizon where he could only see a dense forest and the sun beginning to rise.
“We could find the missing piece of the map ourselves and give it to Ravenna, but we don’t know exactly where she is yet,” Gordon finally said. “And we don’t know when her powers will emerge. But one way or another, we’re going to rescue Neptune.”
