" This summer is going to be different, I can just feel it! " I exclaimed to my best friend, Laura.
We only had a few weeks left of school, so summer was right around the corner. Both of us had dreams that we planned to chase after. Laura wanted to be an actress, and as for me, I wanted to sing. I've always had a passion for singing, and sang whenever I could. I finally decided to chase my dream, so Laura and I decided that since we were graduating next year, we'd move to LA and get a house together to audition and see if we could live our dreams.
" I know! I'm kind of scared.. What if nothing happens, El? " she said, lines of worry forming on her forehead.
I was scrolling through my instagram, and just so happen to come across a quote that I decided to read aloud: " Some people dream of success, others stay awake to achieve it. "
I looked at her, and I could tell by her smile that she was already more convinced we'd be fine. At that moment, my stomach let out a growl. When I looked at her, it was as though she read my mind, as always.
" What am I making you this time? " she sighs.
" Nachos! " we both yell after a second, giggling.
She was like my sister. I've known her since 7th grade, and I've never been closer to anyone in my life. Neither of us really knew how it happened, though. I was invited to her 13th birthday, but not by her. She didn't NOT like me, don't get me wrong, she just didn't really know me then, but she let me come anyway. After that party, we just basically just became best friends. We knew each other like the back of our hands. And she knew that I was always hungry.. and I mean always hungry. I was going through a nacho obsession phase, and she made the best nachos.
As I shoved a handful of cheesy Heaven into my mouth, I tried to mutter out the word, " music! " But instead it came out sounding like " moo-ic ". Good thing we're close.
" And let me kiss you! " rings through her house from her phone.
Did I mention we're fans of One Direction? Like, not just ' oh, they're cute ' but full on directioners. In fact, we were going to see them in concert in a few months! We were both so pumped.. She was a Niall girl and I had a fancy for Harry. I mean c'mon, who could resist those curls?!
My phone buzzed, and it was a text from my mom. I finished off the last of the nachos, hugged Laura, and ran out the door. Time to get home before mom starts another fit..
I love my mom, there's no doubt about that, but her job is always making her stressed and a lot of the time, she takes that frustration out on me. Plus she was a very protective parent. She teaches middle school for a private school. I can only imagine being trapped in there with a bunch of snobby little kids. Kids are great, I babysit, but one of my biggest pet peeves is when little kids think they're all-that and act disrespectful. It really just creams my corn.
I parked my car in the driveway and locked it, jogging up to the door. I braced myself for the usual routine when she gets home;
" ELLY, YOU FORGOT TO DO ONE OF YOUR CHORES! YOU NEED TO BE MORE HELP AROUND THE HOUSE, I CAN'T DO EVERYTHING AROUND HERE!! "
However this time, she didn't yell. Instead, she smiled as she welcomed me back. I noticed the phone in her hand and gave her a puzzled look. She must have noticed, because she started to explain.
" Elly, I got a call.. It was for you " she says excitedly.
