The Call That Changes Everything

Chapter 4

*beep.. beep.. beep..*

All I could hear were low murmers and the steady beeping of something.. but I couldn't tell what. I couldn't open my eyes or say anything, but I could slowly hear everything that was going on. I was so confused.. what happened?

*HARRY'S P.O.V*

" I still can't believe you were that STUPID! " Louis tells me, placing his head in his hands.

" Me neither.. " I can't help but whisper, trying to choke down any tears that were fighting to make their way out. Everyone was at the hospital waiting outside El's room except me, Lou, and Laura. I insisted I stay with her, and they had the same idea. It had been several hours since the accident happened, and she still hadn't opened her eyes. I've been sitting next to her the whole time, running my hand through my hair every few minutes. I couldn't help what happened.. I didn't see the wave coming! It just snatched her away from me. As soon as it happened, I yelled her name over and over, trying to swim out to get her.. but the waves were just getting too rough. She ended up hitting her head on a rock in the water and passing out, just seconds before I reached her. I couldn't help but feel this was all my fault.

" Guys, i-it's okay.. it was j-just a m-mistake.. " Laura says, trying not to cry again. Her face was tear stained, she's been freaking out ever since we got here. Liam saw what had happened, so he and Zayn immediately ran to the car and got it started, looking for the nearest hospital. Within just minutes we were on our way, El in my lap. I was holding her close to me, with a tight grip on her. There was no way I was letting her go again, I won't make the same mistake.

There's a knock at the door and the nurse comes in.

" I'm sorry, but I'm going to need all of you to leave the room. Visiting hours are over now. "

Lou and Laura stand up, but I refuse. She was here because of me, I wasn't leaving her. In the short time that I've known her, I can tell there's something different about her. I want to be with her. Not in a one-night stand kind of way, but in a genuine relationship. I've never felt this way about anyone before.

" Sir, I'll give you five more minutes with the patient, then you'll have to leave. " the nurse tells me.

" Thank you " I say, as Lou and Laura make their way to the door. " I'll be meet you guys in five minutes. "

Now it was just me and El. Even though she was unconcious, she was still so beautiful. She had this natural beaty about her, and her smile lit up a room. I reached over and tucked a stray piece of her soft red hair behind her ear. I reached over and put my hand in hers, gently stroking the back side of her hand. Oh, how I wish she'd open those sparkling green eyes..

Before I could stop it, the words just fall out of my mouth. " Please wake up.. I love you, El. "

*EL'S P.O.V.*

Now I feel concious, but I still can't open my eyes or my mouth. I just don't have the strength. The nurse came in and told two people to leave, and gave one person five more minutes. By the voices, I figured it was Harry. He slipped his soft hand into mine, intertwining our fingers, and brushing a loose piece of hair out of my face. It's silent for what feels like a few minutes, him just lightly drawing circles with his thumb on the back of my hand. Then he speaks.

" Please wake up.. I love you, El. "

The butterflies in my stomach go wild, and my hand twitches. I'm starting to gain feeling back in my body, and I try to muster all the strength I can to open my eyes. All this work on top of being told " I love you " makes my heart beat faster.
