" Who called? " I asked my mom, puzzled as to who would have called.

" It was someone from Los Angelos, he belongs to a record company and-- "

I didn't let her finish, before I knew it a scream escaped from my mouth. Someone from a RECORD COMPANY called? For ME?! Was she joking right now?! I guess I must've said that outloud, because a little laugh made its way out of her mouth.

" Yes, El. They saw your videos on youtube and thought you had potential to be a star. They want to meet with you as soon as possible, so you're flying out this weekend. And yes, Laura can come with you. " she says with a grin.

I couldn't even process what was going on at the moment. I mean I didn't think I was the worst singer in the world, but the fact that someone personally called and asked to see me, I was at a loss for words. Wait until Laura heard about this!!

Right after I delivered the news, I heard a shriek that I had already prepared myself for. I could tell by the way she was talking she was just as excited as I was, and I heard thumps on the floor hinting at the fact she was jumping up and down. But that's okay, because I was too! She was always the first person I tell things to, and this was why. She was always happy for me, just as I'd be for her. I don't know what I'd do without my best friend!

It was Thursday, and that meant we were flying out tomorrow after school. I didn't want to tell anyone, because I hated making a big deal out of things. Plus, we went to a small school, so gossip spreads like wildfire. I made Laura pinky promise not to tell anyone, and that we would just go about the day like it was any normal day.. Even though it would be anything but.

-----

I drive home from school and make sure I have everything packed. It would only be a weekend, but I wanted to make sure I had my hairbrush and toothbrush and yada yada. I was kind of a hygene freak when it came to my mouth, and I pride myself on my white smile. I hated having braces, but the result was pretty great! I send a text to Laura letting her know I'm leaving the house to pick her up. I grab my keys and head out the door, my mind bursting with thoughts.

-----

After a several hour flight, we land in California. The weather was so perfect since it was the start of summer. The hotel my mom booked for us was overlooking the ocean, and right by a mall. My meeting wasn't until tomorrow, so Laura and I decided we'd take a walk.

First we went to the mall, deciding we'd save the beach for later this evening. I bought a swim top after I realized that was the one thing I forgot to pack.

Of all the things I forget to bring, I pick a swimsuit. Smart, El.

But the one I bought was really cute. It was a hot pink with little white birds on it. I decided I'd wear my white, loose over-shirt with it.

When I get home, I change into my beach wear and let my hair down. I had longish red hair that came down to about the middle of my back. I loved my red hair, because not many other people were redheads any more. Plus, it made my green eyes pop!

I give myself a quick look over in the mirror, then a little nod, mentally approving that I'm ready to go. I look at Laura in her cute beach attire. She was wearing hot pink shorts with a matching pink bikini top, her long brown hair swept into a bun. Laura was one of the only people who could really work a bun. We grab our beach bags and skip towards the beach hand in hand.
