I should've driven to the store. That's all I could think as I carried all my groceries back to my apartment. I severely underestimated how much I needed to restock.

"Miss Rona!" A male voice called out. Who tf? Curiosity took over me and I turned to look behind me in the direction of the voice. It was none other than Gotti's irritating ass.

I stopped walking and flipped my middle finger at him. He just laughed and jogged up to me. "Sis chill. I was joking. Here. Let me help you," he said before lightening my load and grabbing some of the bags that I had been struggling with just minutes before.

"Thank you...What you doing over here?" I asked him as we resumed walking in the direction of my building.

"I just left my son Rippy's crib. I was over there last night."

"I hope y'all wasn't out doing no stupid shit. You know how your mom gets and he's way too young to be in the streets like this. He's only twelve," I said as I side-eyed him, knowing how the two of them get when their badasses get together.

"We wasn't even doing nothing for real just 2k...What about you? You good? You feeling better?" He asked, quickly changing the subject and avoiding eye contact with me.

"Yeah, I'm good now. I was going through it though."

"Damn...Well at least you had your nigga with you," Gotti smirked before lightly nudging me with his elbow. We stopped in front of the door to my building and he opened it for me.

"Kay is not my nigga. How many times I gotta tell you the same thing? He's just my best friend," I responded defensively as I led the way up the stairs. For now.

"So how did you get Covid from him and Dougie didn't?" He asked with an accusatory tone.

"Gotti I don't know," I lied. I was out here swapping spit with Kay's dirty ass.

"Mhm. Something ain't adding up. Y'all the reason why my girl ain't allowed to have a boy best friend. Cus that shit is cap like  word to my mother," he said.

"No Gotti. You're just insecure because you be cheating so you think your girl is cheating too."

"True but still that best friend shit is sus," he reaffirmed.

I ignored him and unlocked the front door. I pushed the door open and walked in with Gotti behind me. "Just put those on the counter. I'll put it away," I said to him.

"Aight." He put the bags on the counter and grabbed a water before sitting on the barstools as I started putting the groceries away.

"What you bout to do after this?" He asked.

"I don't know. Work?" I shrugged.

"Nini you are the most boring seventeen-year-old I know...Pop out. Gang outside today."

"I know. Kay tried getting me to go with him to Courtlandt earlier," I said as I put the last of the groceries away.

"So why you ain't go? It's a nice ass summer day and you wanna stay in the fucking house. Come outside you've been cooped up in this bitch for weeks. You need some fresh air or you gone end up going crazy like my—" He continued trying to convince me.

"Alright, Gotti. Damn," I cut him off, grabbing my phone and laptop before putting them in my tote. "Come on," I said before walking over to the front door. He got up from the barstool and walked out of the door.

"Thank God. I needed a ride," He said after sighing in relief making me smack my lips as I locked the door.

I began making my way to the stairs. "You could've just asked me to drop you off instead of pretending to care about my mental health. I should make your ass take the bus for that."
