After hearing what Rukawa said, our Shohoku friends suddenly went livid, defending themselves in the most Shohoku way possible:
All their voices mingled with each other, making the gym abuzz.

"Of course I say I love you to my girlfriend!!" Sakuragi huffed, jabbing a finger at Rukawa's chest, Rukawa deciding to ignore him,
Sakuragi felt attacked because he still hasn't said "I love you" to (name) today.
"I just said I love you to (name) before she went home!! After I kissed her forehead!!" Mitsui flung his arms, to which Rukawa replied, "Oh, is that so? I thought you're gonna get laid tonight." (Believe me, Rukawa misunderstood what he heard from Mitsui's girlfriend a while ago. Rukawa just wanted to piss him off.)
"OH!! OH!! SOMEONE'S GETTING LUCKY TONIGHT!!" The team cheered in unison (except for Rukawa) upon hearing that, and Mitsui was a blushing mess.
"That's not it, okay?! Rukawa's making stories and shit!" Mitsui was like,
"Aya-chan, Aya-chan!!" Ryota shouted loudly, amplifying his voice, and once Ayako looked his way he shouted with all his might:
"I LOVE YOU!!"
Ayako smiled and she blew Ryota a kiss.
Ryota just fainted right then and there.
While they were doing their best to fan some air to revive Ryota, Rukawa took upon himself to get the last remaining Pocari bottle on the floor. In one full swig he was able to empty the bottle.

Rukawa tried to find small peace amidst the clamor of it all so he decided to go to the other side of the gym, near to where Ayako was seated. She's currently making some reports.
Rukawa then started to clean and polish the balls they just used for practice.
"I'd rather do this tedious task than find myself among those guys." Rukawa thought to himself.
Rukawa looked up once the noise was all over: Ryota's woken up, Sakuragi just ended the call with his girlfriend and all the team heard from the redhead was,
"Yes, yes. I love you, (name)-chan. Don't ever think otherwise. Oh. Oh?? Why I'd call suddenly? Well, I called just to tell you I love you!! Nyahahaha!"
"Douhaou."
Rukawa looked to his side when he noticed a shadow looming over him, like a tower was on the way of the light.
It was Akagi.
And he seemed to have something in mind.
What Akagi asked next in quite a loud voice, Rukawa didn't have the definitive answer for.
"Rukawa. What does your girlfriend do that makes you feel loved?"
Ayako was taken aback by Akagi's question that her pen broke.
