I loved this man more than I could possibly begin to comprehend.
I loved every twisted, dark, broken part of him, that he tried so desperately to hide from me.
The more I learned about him, the more I came to realize just how misunderstood he was. In light of the current situation, he had decided to take me to the nursery in an attempt to ease into what was to happen next.
"All in due time" he had told me, over and over again, to my great annoyance.
Finally, it was time and I was nowhere near prepared for what he was about to reveal to me.
I had seen the strange changes in his body when the blood rush got its hold of him, even seen something similar happen to me after learning I had become pregnant with his child.
Something neither of us had planned or were prepared for.
We were sitting on the soft mattress of the grand bed in the nursery, partially hidden by the flowy fabric that hung from the top of it.
It seemed like as good a place as any to have that conversation, despite us both suddenly feeling uneasy and awkward.
I could tell he struggled to find words, unsure where to even begin and I gently placed a hand on top of his, giving it a gentle squeeze as I smiled at him to show my support.
"You don't have to tell me anything if you're not ready Zack. I trust you to tell me when the time is right"
He looked at me with a mix of happiness and worry, sitting there in silence for a bit before finally speaking.
"If I don't tell you now, I don't think I will ever gather the courage to do so. Besides... You deserve to know. It's only right considering..." his eyes moved to my growing belly.
I nodded in understanding.
He shifted slightly as he continued, visibly uneasy.
Perhaps he was worried about how I would react to what he was about to tell me, which in hindsight is understandable. Nothing could have prepared me for what he was about to tell me.
His voice cracked as he spoke again, avoiding my gaze.
"The rumors you were told in the past, the ones about the beast in these woods" he began, pausing for a moment before continuing.
"They hold some truth, but you haven't been told all of it..."
My heart seemed to stop for a moment as I tried to process the words that came out of his mouth.
"W-what do you mean..?" I asked him, absentmindedly fiddling with the fabric of my dress to calm myself.
He brought out a book from the bedside table behind him and handed it to me, his hands shaking enough for me to see just how nervous he was.
"Zack what's going on..?" I asked in a high-pitched voice, audibly nervous at this sudden change in his behavior.
"You need to know the truth about me and what I am. The whole truth" he said quietly.
I slowly took the book from his hands, studying the binding for a moment as I listened to his words.
"Is this about the whole blood rush thing? I already know this..." I replied, looking up into his eyes for answers but finding none.
"That's only part of it... Stella, I need you to promise me to listen to what I am about to tell you and... Not freak out?"
His voice was nothing but a whisper at this point.
