Andrew couldn't believe it. After weeks of trying to one-up each other in their PMLS 1 class, he and Clark had finally agreed to work together on an assignment. But during their next class, things took a turn for the worse. They were discussing a particularly challenging topic, and both Andrew and Clark were eager to prove their knowledge. As they argued back and forth, their voices grew louder and more heated.
Suddenly, their professor interrupted them. "Gentlemen, I must say, I am impressed by both of your knowledge and enthusiasm. You both clearly have a deep understanding of this material."
Andrew felt a swell of pride at the professor's words, but his pride quickly turned to anger as he noticed Clark smirking at him from across the room.
As the class ended and the other students filed out, Andrew approached Clark, feeling annoyed by his attitude. "What the hell was that, man? We agreed to work together, not compete against each other."
Clark raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? I was just trying to participate in the discussion."
Andrew shook his head, feeling frustrated. "No, you were trying to show off. You always have to be the smartest person in the room."
Clark looked hurt by the accusation. "That's not true, Andrew. I'm just trying to learn, like you said."
Andrew didn't want to hear it. He turned and walked away, feeling more irritated than ever.
Over the next few days, Andrew avoided Clark as much as possible. He didn't want to be around someone who was so competitive and arrogant. But he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being childish, that maybe he was just jealous of Clark's intelligence.
Finally, he decided to confront him one more time. He approached Clark after class and said, "Listen, I'm sorry for how I acted the other day. I guess I was just frustrated with myself for not knowing as much as you do."
Clark looked surprised by the apology. "It's okay, Andrew. I understand how you feel. But we shouldn't let our egos get in the way of our learning."
Andrew nodded, feeling relieved that Clark was willing to forgive him. But as they walked out of the classroom, Clark suddenly poked him in the side.
"What the hell, man?" Andrew exclaimed.
Clark grinned. "Gotcha! I guess I can't resist a little friendly competition."
Andrew rolled his eyes, feeling a grin tug at the corners of his own mouth. "You're impossible, you know that?"
Clark laughed. "Yeah, but you love me anyway."
As they walked off together, Andrew couldn't help but feel grateful for the friendship that had grown between them. He realized that maybe, just maybe, he didn't always have to be the smartest person in the room. Sometimes it was better to have a friend who could challenge him and push him to be better.
