"It's hard to decide what hurts more: the shot, even though cushioned by the suit, the fall, or the wounded pride of not being able to even get close to whoever is behind it all."
Dick remembers when he had to face the Gunslinger, leading one of his first missions with the Titans.
Layton was annoyingly accurate and shot with a speed that to this day impresses him, even more so being that he was "only" a human. "Disarm first," was what he learned from Bruce and Diana, "Focus on your feet, he shoots with his hands!" was what Arthur taught, "Use your aim too," that was the advice from the Grifter.
None of these are applicable as long as Nightwing continues to be attacked from a distance. The signal from his tracker was weak, almost imperceptible. Either the cargo has gone far from Bludhaven or is below it. Either way Dick had circled on a map the last strong reading, now he would need to use other methods to find out about the town's layout and hiding possibilities. But before that, Richard Loyd would have to introduce himself to the museum curator again. And try to find out as much as possible about theft.
MUSEUM | 10am
Dick sees Inspector Elise checking the bullet marks on the lawn and the tree, he contains a proud smile as he makes his way to the meeting with the curator.- I really don't know how to apologize, Mr. Loyd, I don't know how this was possible! We hadn't even chosen the location for the display of your amulet yet. - the curator seems sincere in her words, she goes through all the signs that would deliver a lie
- With all respect Miss Rose, your apologies don't matter one bit to me, what are the museum and the police doing to recover my amulet? - Dick in the most arrogant voice he could muster, a nod to Luthor's conversations with Bruce
- Unfortunately our hands are tied Mr. Loyd, the museum has only one security team for the artifacts, but we are not allowed to investigate thefts and robberies, we rely on the efficiency of the local police, they are out there now, doing their job.
- You want to convince me that millions of dollars are displayed in your museum and you don't have a team to investigate in case of theft?
- Unfortunately, yes.
- Where was my amulet?
- In our vault, along with other artifacts.- Other artifacts from the exhibition he was going to attend? Or was it just my amulet that was stolen?
- These are interesting questions. - Elise- Miss Elise. - Rose
- Your questions are precise, have you had guidance? - the inspector is direct and ignores the curator's compliance
- Guidance?
- Lawyer, some police friend.- Just trying to understand what happened. - Dick
- So am I, where were you last night Mr. Loyd? - Elise- Is that an accusation?
- Answer the question.
Dick stares at the investigator for a few seconds.
- Visiting a friend in Star City.
- Does this friend have a name?
- Oliver Queen.Dick realizes that quoting Oliver's name makes the curator even more interested in the character he plays, this might be useful in some way
- I'll check it out, in the meantime, don't leave town. - Elise in a threatening tone
- Unfortunately I won't be able to follow this, investigative guidance. I have business elsewhere. So, either you keep me here or we say goodbye.
Grudgingly, Elise steps out of Richard's way, allowing him to leave the museum.
