I hoped I looked okay.

After all, if he actually did end up kissing me, I wanted to look my best. Thank god I didn't forget my bag. I had breath mints stored in there for a reason.

From the look on his face, I must have chosen well.

"So Danny, where to?" I ask, resting my hand on a jutted out hip.

"Well depends." He stuffs his hands in his pockets and rocks on his heels. "Somewhere sketchy or somewhere nice?"

"A mix of both?" He grins. My heart flutters. Come on June, get your crap together.

"I've got the perfect place in mind." He's only been here for barely a week and he already know the place like the back of his hand. Well I suppose he has lived here before.

Before I can react he reaches for my hand and pulls me out the door, barely giving me time to reach for the knob and pull it shut. He drags me across the walkway and into the street, looking back to smile. "I didn't drive, it's not that far from here." I nod my head. "Oh, and I hope you can run in heels, cousin." I arch an eyebrow. He returns the gesture with a mischievous grin. That was when the handicapped, once dying Day Wing broke out in a sprint.

I could have run much faster, obviously, had I not been wearing those bloody shoes, but I managed to keep hold of Day's hand, even if he had to slow down for me. After running for about 20 minutes, he slowed to a stop outside of a brick building with a metal door. No sign flashed outside of it. It just looked like maybe the back door of a rather sketchy strip club.

"Of all people, you should know that looks can be deceiving." Day winks and opens the door, pulling me inside.

I am surprised at the sight that lays out before me. Mahogany tables with white linen laid across them. Porcelain plates and bowls are set out with crystal cups and silverware. The walls are decorated with graffiti, but not like the ones that we see in dark alleys on the streets, more like street art. Beautiful, powerful, and opinionated. No wonder Day likes this place. It's so much like him.

A man walks up to us. His dark hair is tied in a small tail, and he wears jeans, a white tee shirt, and a brown vest. He gives me a small smile and nods to Day. "Blonde boy. Your back. And with a new lady I see." A pang of sadness courses through my body. Day tenses up.

"Your sense of humor lacks truth, cousin." He smiles, looking closely to me. "I haven't gone out with a girl as pretty as you in years." Heat rises to my face. Was he this charming when we were kids?

The man slugs Day playfully in the shoulder. "I'm only kidding cousin." He laughs. "My name is Alexander Benhar." He holds out a hand.

I give it a firm shake and smile. "June Iparis."

"The June Iparis? The Republic's prodigy?" I nod. He shakes his head in disbelief. "Wait a second. Blondie here is Day Wing.... Didn't you two have a little something going on? When you were kids I mean?"

Day blushes, and I feel heat rise to my cheeks as well. "Just trying to rekindle here, Alex." Day says. My blush deepens. How can he manage to make me feel so vulnerable without even looking at me?

"Well may as well get to it." Alex says, leading us to a table with a spray painted eye over it. A giant cat eye eyeliner is added to it. Day pulls out my chair and goes to his own. "For drinks, Day, I know you want your usual, but June, any requests?"

"What he's having will be fine." I smile across the table to Day. Alex nods and hurries away.

"How much do you remember?" I blurt out. I snap my mouth shut. Is there anything worse I could have said?

"Just about everything. I have a hard time remembering certain people, like Pascao for example. At first I couldn't remember much of anything, only people that had been there most of my life. I remembered my parents' death," I flinch. "And John's." I pauses to grab my hand. "I know how they died June. And I know it's not your fault." I breathe a sigh of relief. He forgives me! He remembers but he forgives me! "I know you and I had a bit of a thing going on, and I know Tess used to have a thing for me."

"She's into Eden now." I say. Day's hand is still over mine.

He grins. "I know. But June, I want you to know, I don't love you like I used to, for gods sake it was a teenage puppy love." My heart sinks. "But I want to try again." He looks into my eyes, and I can tell he's dead serious. "Whatever it takes."

Alex comes up to the table with two glasses of wine. I silently curse him for coming at the worse possible time. At the same time I thank him, because if he hadn't, I'm sure I would have drown in the sea of blue known as Day's eyes. "I don't know why you like this stuff Day. We have nicer wines that are only a few notes more and three times the taste." Day takes his hand off of mine. The warmth quickly fades away. I sigh.

Day raises his glass."Its not the quality cousin, it's the memories." He takes a big long gulp and let's out a satisfied sigh. His eyes grow wide. "Why, I can feel them coming back as we speak!"

Alex rolls his eyes. "And what do you want for dinner?"

"The special." Day says. "As usual."

"I'll have the same." I put in.

"Original, are we?" Alex teases. I smile back. "Well I'll go get your order. Enjoy your overly cheap wine."

"A toast." Day says, holding out his glass. "To new beginnings."

"To new beginnings." I echo. The glasses clink. I take a sip.

Suddenly a burst of memories come back to me.

Day's hand on my hip, the other in my hair, the taste of this wine on his lips.

Me sitting by myself at the table, drinking this wine as tears run down my face, the day Day didn't remember me.

The anniversary or Metias's death.

The anniversary of my parents' death.

And then now.

(The fan art above is something I drew, and it's based off of another fan art!) this is the longest chapter I have writer so far! That's sorta why it took so long to publish, also I'm in California right now!

I hope this chapter wasn't as boring as I think it is, but more action coming up!!!

Honestly I had no outline for this chapter, I just went with it so oops!

Also, do any of you ship Tess and Eden together? I'm hoping to add that into this particular fanfiction!

I hope your having a nice day, and if not, hope it gets better!

Xoxo,
Ellie
