after me and sarah were done helping wheezie, i started going downstairs as i heard arguing. i froze in my tracks and continued down without making a sound. i got closer to the patio door and heard my dad yelling at rafe.
"go make yourself useful somewhere, somehow." dad said, pinching the bridge of his nose.
rafe looked down at dad as he looked in the distance. "sarah and spencer aren't working." he replied.
i furrowed my eyebrows together, figuring out what they were talking about, then i realized. dad gave money to rafe to get generators but he spent it all on a motorcycle. "this isn't about the twins, rafe. you're almost 20." dad retorted to my brother. "you don't get to sit back and have everything handed to you."
"i-i'll take care of those generators, okay?" rafe stuttered.
dad got up from his seat and got closer to rafe. "i'll believe it when i see it." he whispered before walking away.
rafe looked stressed, he moved his hair back before walking into the house. i heard his footsteps approaching, so i leaned against the wall with my arms crossed. rafe walked in and didn't even notice i was there. "i told you, rafe." i said. he slightly jumped and turned to face me. "shouldn't have bought that motorcycle with the generator money."
he glared at me and shrugged. "hm." was all he said.
"hm." i replied before pushing his shoulder and walking away.
the blue sky eventually turned dark, bringing out the stars and the moon. sarah had already snuck out, wheezie was sleeping, rafe is somewhere doing god knows what, and rose and dad went out so i was home.
the silence made my home feel empty like i was the only one who lived inside. i swallowed before heading up the stairs into my bedroom. i closed my door and grabbed a box from underneath my bed. i opened it, took out my secret notebook, and sat at my desk.
i grabbed my pen and started writing about everything. i was almost done when i heard taps at my window. i quickly shut my notebook and shoved it under my bed. i got up and looked towards the window. from my view, i couldn't see anything until i got closer. a silhouette of a person.
i slowly got closer and realized it wasn't just a random person. it was a familiar blonde. i blinked a few times before he motioned to open the window. i hesitated before i opened it halfway. "dude, what the fuck." i said.
he smiled like nothing bothered him. "can you let me in please?" he asked.
i scoffed, shaking my head. "absolutely not. why are you even here?" i questioned, crossing my arms.
jj licked his lips and stayed silent. "j-just please, spencer. i'll tell you once i'm inside." he pleaded. i sighed and stayed still before opening my window so he could come in. "look i know we don't know each other-"
i laughed. "you're right." i said. "which is a valid reason to not let you climb through my window at... 11pm."
he scratched his neck and chuckled. "to be honest..." he started. i looked up at him. "i really have no place to go. john b wasn't home, kie wasn't, same with pope, and you're the only other person i could think of that would have the decency to help someone."
my mouth fell open a little. i didn't question anything else just in case. i slowly nodded. "you're right. i do have human decency." i joked. he laughed along before it went silent. "um.. you can sleep on the couch tonight? if that's okay or i can take the-"
jj shushes me with his finger. "the couch would be lovely." he replied in a posh accent. i smiled a little. "thank you, spencer. you don't know how much this means to me, and i'm s-sor-sorry about what happened at the boneyard."
i hummed in response. not really wanting to talk about it. i just looked at him with tired eyes. "thanks." i mumbled, getting into bed. "night, jj."
"night, spence."
