seconds felt like hours when the cops turned off the sprinklers. he pressed a button and we heard the sprinklers turn off. we waited until the footsteps were gone and got out from hiding. i handed sarah another bottle of bug shield and we headed out, knowing i was gonna speak.

we came out from the side of the house quickly and i acted surprised. "what is going on?" i asked worriedly.

sarah stood beside me acting as worried as i was. "who are you?" the cop asked me, pointing a gun right at us.

it took me a moment to think of a name, but i just used sarah's alias with john b and i held up my hands in surrender. "i'm val and this is my sister." i answered. "we're house-sitting for the cameron's."

the cop pulled his gun down and stood straight. "you live here?" he asked quickly.

me and sarah shook our head. "no, just house-sitting." i replied, trying to not make it obvious that i was lying. "we just started a week ago."

cops pointed guns at john b's head. we got closer to him. "we caught this guy trying to break in." the cop informed us, putting his gun back into his holster.

i frowned, me and sarah got closer to john b ask i laughed. "oh!" i chuckled. "we know him." john b looked up at us as sarah nodded along with me. "he cleans boats for the neighbors."

the cop stepped closer to us. "which neighbors?" he asked suspiciously.

i exhaled deeply and tilted my head with a smile. "like, the stanely's." i answered. "down the street."

"whats his name?" the cop pressed.

i looked to john b who breathed heavily and i looked back towards the cop. i smiled again. "vlad." i said, as sarah sprayed the cop right in the eyes.

i did the same to the others as john b tackled another one, throwing him to the ground. i kept spraying before john b shouted. "guys! come on, to the car!" he motioned as we sprinted towards the truck. me and sarah jumped in the bed as john b got into the drivers side, starting it immediately.

sarah and i watched as the cops started chasing after us. "go! john b!" i shouted as he sped up the trucks speed. one of the cops grabbed onto my foot, trying to hold on as i tried to kick him off. "get off me!" i screamed. john b must've heard me because he did some maneuver with the track, causing him to let go of my foot. me and sarah sighed to ourselves as john b drove out of the community.

a couple of minutes of driving, we pulled up to a small little rest area and got out of the truck. i rested my hands on my knees, trying to control my breathing as sarah patted my back. "you straight up donkey kicked that du-" john b came around to the back and sarah pushed him harshly.

she pushed him again. "you lied to me!" she shouted.

john b turned around and walked towards me and sarah. "what are you talking about?" he asked. "we're fine!"

sarah scoffed. "no, we're not fine!" she shouted again. "you lost the only money we had! you almost got us all caught if not shot, how is that okay?" she cried out.

john b closed his eyes for a second to breathe. "okay, i am proactively admitting that i've screwed up and i'm willing-"

sarah turned to me for some help and i nodded. i sighed, shaking my head. "-proactively admitting doesn't do anything, john b." i said frustrated. sarah pulled her hair and paced back and forth, too stressed to deal with john b, which was why i got her back. "we have lost our father. we have lost our brother. we have lost our little sister..." i stopped for a second. "we can't lose you either, john b. for me, you're like a replacement for rafe! i consider you as my brother!"

john b stayed silent as sarah came around and put her hand on my shoulder, still pissed at john b. "we're calling the shots now." sarah said sternly. "and to start, we're driving."

i scratched my neck awkwardly as sarah walked to the drivers side. "w-we can't drive stick, sarah..." i said then trailed off, nodding to myself. she stopped in her tracks and turned around, going to the passengers side.

i looked to john b and sighed, sitting next to sarah in the front. we came up with a plan and drove to the docks where we thought terrance, cleo, and stubbs would be. we sat in silence for a moment before john b broke it. "okay, this arguably the worst idea we have ever had." he saud unbuclking his seatbelt and getting out.

i rolled my eyes and looked at him. "is there something else you wanna argue about?" i asked annoyed as me and sarah stared him down. he held up his hands in surrender as we climbed out of the truck, and shutting the door behind us.

we walked up to their boat as the three of the stared at us. sarah wrapped her arm around my shoulders as i crossed my arms. since i'm the better negotiator, we all decided i would be speaking for us. again. "we have a proposition." i said tilting my head.

terrance raised his brows. "if it involves giving you that rock back, forget it." he replied. "you're lucky i'm not on the phone with the cops right now."

i chuckled sarcastically. "i'm not worried about that." i shrugged. "you saw what was in that safe, did you not?" terrance nodded. "and it was exactly what we told you it would be, right?"

terrance looked down and took a sip of his drink. "yeah, well, that thing's on lockdown. tighter than a clamshell now." cleo said from sitting on the boat top.

i raised my brow and scoffed. "no shit." i replied with a smirk. "but the gold's not staying there." i saw terrance look up to cleo then she looked to me. "our dad's gonna come down and move it. he'll have to."

terrance chuckled, looking back at me. "so, what are you guys proposing? a brinks job?" he asked, taking another sip of his drink.

"think about it." i smiled slyly. "you have a boat that can get us away. you know people and the island, and i can find out exactly when that gold's moving." terrance looked at me, john b, and sarah in disbelief. now the fun part, the negotiation. "and we'll give you two million."

stubbs and cleo, popped their heads up at the mention of money. terrance sighed. "so let me get this straight." he started as john b and sarah looked down towards me as i listened. "we take the risk of going to jail and getting shot for a fraction of what's in that safe."

i rolled my eyes. "that's what i just said. were you not listening?" i asked super annoyed. "you're lucky we're even offering you money. even after you abandoned us? stole our boat? we really don't owe you shit, but we'll give you ten."

john b looked down at me with a slightly shocked expression as sarah smirked, she knew that i was good at negotiating. "ten million a piece." cleo argued.

terrance nodded and agreed verbally to cleo's request. i pursed my lips and looked to john b. "a piece? you know what? we're getting-"

sarah held her hand up to let me continue talking as i glared at john b, still visibly upset about the argument earlier. "john b." i seethed. "shut the hell up." he stepped back a little as i had a staring contest with terrance. i looked up to cleo who seemed amused by her own request. "ten million a piece."

john b scoffed. "ten million a piece, we're just throwing money away." he sighed.

i turned and glared at him again. "which will come out of my share of the gold." i said to make him a little more thankful we're even getting help.

i turned back to terrance as he stepped closer, with one drink in his hand. he held up his other hand. i pursed my lips and looked up. "you have yourself a deal, sweetheart." he said as i took his hand and shook it.

sarah silently celebrated, grabbing onto my shoulders as john b gave me a high-five. all this shit wasn't over yet.

we were just getting started.
